College/Department Information
The Department of Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine is charged with conducting high-impact original biomedical research and translating the findings to clinical applications, and in educating future physicians and researchers. Our research addresses fundamental questions in cell and developmental biology, endocrinology, neuroscience, regenerative medicine, and cancer biology. Collaborations have been established with clinical departments for studies that investigate various diseases including neurological diseases (stroke, epilepsy, muscular dystrophy, and Guillain-Barre syndrome); psychiatric disorders (schizophrenia and autism); degenerative diseases (osteoporosis); cancer; and endocrinological disorders.

The laboratory's research focuses on stem cell models for human diseases and cell/tissue preservation. Highly motivated applicants with experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, and microscopy are encouraged to apply.

Job Summary
The position is in a lab studying immune-taste interactions aimed at understanding mechanisms of taste bud regeneration. We have two major ongoing projects, both using transgenic and knockout mice. The first is to determine how cytokines impact taste bud regeneration after neural injury. The second project is focused on the role of the ACE2 receptor in the taste system relevant to taste loss after COVID-19 infection.

Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:

Experimental Studies: Prepare different solutions and media needed for experiments. Perform a variety of experimental studies including cell/tissue cryopreservation, cell biology and molecular biology experiments involving mammalian stem cells, oocytes and embryos. These tasks require maintaining accurate daily records of all laboratory results.

Data: Summarize and analyze experimental data.

Lab Management: Determining needed new supplies and equipment, making responsible purchasing decisions, placing orders, maintaining computer database and hard copies for inventories (e.g. chemicals, supplies, frozen cell and tissue stocks, DNA clones, antibodies, etc.) and equipment service records, keeping laboratory equipment functional, preparation/update of animal use, biosafety and chemical protocols and coordinating daily operation and cleanliness of the laboratory.

Research Animals: Maintain colonies of research animals and breed mutant mouse lines.

Other: Perform all other related duties/tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in cell and molecular biology techniques, reproductive and developmental biology, as well as in lab management.

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)

Pay Grade: R9

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
