Job Summary
This role produces content for internal media and engages faculty, staff and students to generate compelling ideas for articles to promote the institution in campus publications including, but not limited to magazines, newsletters, web pages and social media. This role also helps ensure our campus messages are ADA compliant. This role assists in the production and distribution of written, audio and video communications, especially to include copy writing/editing support. This role Is responsible for staying on top of communications and marketing trends and best practices, as well as analyzing our AU results for ongoing improvement. This role functions as division AP Style expert and provides copy editing service for high-level communications and written materials as assigned, as well as writes and maintains in-house editorial standards and guide. This role leads communications and marketing strategy for key campus events such as Values Week and Commencement Week. Starting in 2022, this role will begin offering writing coaching for campus communicators and faculty, including helping our faculty communicate their research to the public through op/ed columns in the media.

Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:

Content Creation - Content information and outreach. Reach out to contacts for intro and touch base. Aim to complete 2 stories and additional briefs each week. Continue building key relationships with sources around campus.

Writing - Style guide maintenance, ADA compliance and other duties as assigned

Outreach - Writer coaching for campus communicators and faculty experts

Leadership - Lead communications and marketing strategy on Fall 2021 Commencement stories and Values Week

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, or related field with five years of experience

Preferred Qualifications
This position is responsible for determining the best experts for media relations requests and coordinating interviews. Experience editing publications with readership of 25,000 or more. Experience in writing, media relations, journalism, relationship building. Previous experience in education and/or health care preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge in media relations. Working knowledge of computer software systems including databases, operating systems and spreadsheets.

SKILLS
Excellent oral and written communications skills.

ABILITIES
Ability to work in collaborative, creative and fast-paced environment. Strong attention to detail.

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday-Friday
Pay Grade: 14
Salary: Minimum $36,197/year - Midpoint $46,184/year
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
