College/Department Information
The Medical College of Georgia is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 260 students per class. The educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state and a second four-year campus in Athens in partnership with the University of Georgia. MCG's expanding partnerships with physicians and hospitals across Georgia currently provides about 350 sites where students can experience the full spectrum of medicine, from complex care hospitals to small-town solo practices. MCG and its teaching hospitals also provide postgraduate education to more than 500 residents and fellows in 50 different Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved programs. Our researchers and clinicians focus on what most impacts the health of Georgia's and America's children and adults, including cardiovascular biology and disease, cancer, neurosciences and behavioral sciences, public and preventive health, regenerative and reparative medicine, personalized medicine and genomics. Our physician faculty also share their expertise with physicians and patients at about 100 clinics and hospitals statewide.

Job Summary
This position provides administrative and technical oversight in a cardiorenal research laboratory in the Department of Physiology. Responsibilities include ensuring research protocols are followed and met; safety guidelines are followed in accordance with institution and government regulations; management of laboratory resources; providing teaching and technical oversight to trainees and research staff; processing of data, present findings and assist Principle Investigator (PI) with current and future research applications and programs of study; and coordinate administrative and technical arrangements of animal models and maintain records related to use.

The successful candidate will join a NIH-funded project (PI, Dr. Daria Ilatovskaya) and perform research aimed at advancing the understanding of the mechanisms that underlie kidney and heart disease. The laboratory specializes in investigating the regulation of ion channels and transporters in the different aspects of cardiorenal disorders, as well as investigates cardiorenal mitochondrial bioenergetics, with a focus on sex differences in pathobiology.

Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:

Coordinate research activities in the lab and instruct research staff and students and advise regarding research techniques.

Coordinate administrative and technical arrangements of animal models and maintain records related to use. Perform animal colony maintenance and surgical procedures such as i.p. injections, gavage and euthanasia. Assists PI with animal protocols preparation and submission.

Perform complex data analysis related to producing research results and preparing findings for future development and develop new studies in coordination with the PI. Plan research protocols and controls proper execution of the research plans by other laboratory staff. Analyze data and prepares publication-ready figures.

Participate in the tracking and monitoring of budgetary resources to ensure effective lab operations. Interface with vendors and administration regarding order tracking and invoices/payments.

Use independent judgement in the daily operation of the lab to ensure safe and efficient use of resources. Monitor use of resources to ensure compliance with federal guidelines and
institutional protocols.

Assist PI with data preparation for grant applications and renewals. Participate actively in the composition, editing and publication of research findings.

Perform other duties incidental to work described herein.

Required Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory particularly clinical trial research.
OR
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' research and/or clinical experience; previous supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Excellent customer service, interpersonal, multi-tasking, organizational and verbal/written communication skills;
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) and other computer software/databases.
Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines despite often interruptions, maintain confidentiality, keep accurate records and make independent decisions. Ability to work with research animals.

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of the normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)

Pay Grade: R14

Salary: Minimum $36,197.00/Annually - $50,675.00/Annually

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
