The Sports Medicine physician functions as a core member of the Family Medicine Residency faculty as well as part of a primary care team. This individual will work with Family Medicine/Sports Medicine Fellowship Director orthopedic surgery to build the infrastructure of the Sports Medicine Fellowship. Oversee the musculoskeletal medicine curriculum for the Family Medicine residency. Provide regular education to Family Medicine residents and students on primary care Sports Medicine topics. Assist faculty, residents, and staff in QI and research projects that have a sports medicine component. This position does not require sufficient teaching, research, or service to be on a tenure track.

Responsibilities
Teaching students- 30% Taking care of patients in the clinic-70%.

ABILITIES
Ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting. Ability to work in a high-stress, fast-paced, high-work volume environment. Ability to make judgments in demanding situations. Ability to react to frequent changes in duties and volume of work. Use of ultrasound in evaluation and diagnosis of MS complaints.

KNOWLEDGE
Understanding of working in a medical setting as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Familiarity with ACGME requirements for SM fellowship. Rules governing participation as a team physician in the State of Georgia.

SKILLS
Computer and electronic health record. Customer service. Work independently and seek consultation as necessary. Effective communication. Maintain effective relationships with patients and other members of a care team. Engage patients in therapeutic relationships when appropriate. Confrontation and conflict resolution. Administration and organization.

Required Qualifications
MD or DO with completion of an ACGME or AOA accredited Family Medicine Residency Program. CAQ in Sports Medicine. AND Board certified (or board-eligible) by the American Board of Family Medicine. Eligible for licensure in Georgia and credentialing at Augusta University Health System. AND Have a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine. AND At least 2 years teaching in a family medicine residency.

Minimum qualifications for each rank are provided below:

Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training

Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:

Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher;
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
  • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.


    Shift/Salary/Benefits
    This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
    The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
    Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
