The Department of Pediatrics, Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University in Augusta, Georgia is actively seeking candidates for a full-time faculty position to serve in the Division of Neonatology. Academic rank will commensurate with experience.

The position will provide clinical care for the neonatal patient population in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit setting. Clinical care would include but is not limited to the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of disorders, consultations, acute care, ordering and interpreting lab results, developing treatment plans, and patient/family education. The position will maintain and ensure that relevant patient records are properly updated, and share week day, weekend and holiday emergent/after-hours call coverage.

Comprehensive services are provided in the 154 bed Children's Hospital of Georgia with the region's only Level IV NICU. We have a comprehensive group of pediatric medical and surgical subspecialists serving children and families from across Georgia and we are a key sub specialty referral center for the southeast. The Children's Hospital of Georgia is part of the Augusta University Health System which includes a 478-bed medical center, a Medical Office Building with more than 80 outpatient practice sites in one convenient setting, and a Critical Care Center housing a 13-county regional trauma center.

Successful candidates will have a proven history of excellent clinical skills, involvement with clinical research, and strong desire to be involved with resident teaching. Additionally, candidates should have an MD/DO degree and be board certified/eligible in Neonatology. Educational Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing mentorship, clinical supervision and consultation to residents/medical students/staff at AU; developing a more in-depth educational experience for trainees in neonatal medicine; providing training to residents/medical students/staff at AU/AUMC in neonatal medicine care through didactics.

This position does not require sufficient teaching, research, or service to be on a tenure track.


Responsibilities
Provide high-quality, comprehensive care in Neonatology. Position will provide comprehensive inpatient services and comprehensive consultation, evaluation, diagnostic and management services for a wide array of neonatal patients while improving quality, safety and patient satisfaction. Participate in on-call duties which includes nights/weekends/holidays. Provide education and training to residents, fellows, medical students and staff which includes but is not limited to: clinical supervision, consultation and didactics. Achieve and maintain teaching evaluation scores at or above the department mean. Attend 50% or more weekly pediatric Grand Rounds presentations and monthly faculty meetings. Fully comply with all University System of Georgia and Augusta University policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications
Medical degree from an accredited medical school/university. Board certified/board eligible in Neonatology. Must have or be eligible for a state of Georgia medical license, federal DEA, PALS/CPR certified.

Minimum qualifications for each rank are provided below:

Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training

Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Professor- Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher;
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
  • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Candidate should have excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and people management skills.

    This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.

    The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

    Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
