College/Department Information
Located conveniently in Augusta's downtown medical community, Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home provides continuous professional nursing care to veterans of Georgia who have served in the armed forces during war times. The home is owned and funded by the Georgia Department of Veterans Service and operated through an interagency agreement with Augusta University. Through this association, Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home is considered a leader in the area of geriatric educational training for Augusta University.

Job Summary
The Staff Nurse possesses knowledge regarding State, Federal, VA and The Joint Commission guidelines governing long term care. This person is responsible for supervising employees in all nursing units. The person in this role ensures that individualized quality patient care is provided for all patients and serves as the supervisor for the facility.

Responsibilities

Assists nursing personnel in the administration for total patient care and serve as Charge Nurse or Medication Nurse for a nursing unit as assigned.

Serve as Supervisor for the facility as needed. Provides support to nursing unit/staff throughout the facility.

Assess patients as needed and contact Physician, as needed.

Serve as Nursing Supervisor for the facility.

Provide support to nursing staff throughout the facility.

Assess patients as needed and contact Physician, as indicated.

Provide direction and guidance in the proper use, care and control of material resources.

Participate in problem solving affecting the care of patients with complex needs by assisting in the development of individualized patient care plans.

Assess progress made toward objective goals.

Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures designed to affect the efficiency of nursing care

Respond to emergency situations by initiating emergency procedures and documenting proper records of emergency care provided.

Perform all other related duties/tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in Nursing and experience in the care of Geriatric patients in a long-term care environment

Current, active licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Georgia; Current American Heart Association Healthcare

Provider BLS/BCLS certification

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in exercising leadership skills.

Ability to assume charge nurse position in an assigned unit.

Ability to supervise others and maintain an empathetic understanding of the physically and mentally challenged patient.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Knowledge of AU/GWVNH policies and procedures

Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

Ability to access and accurately report changes in patients' condition

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases

Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of nursing as it applies to the geriatric population

Detail-oriented with strong telephone etiquette, organizational, customer service and multi-tasking skills

Shift; Days; Monday-Friday
Pay Grade: 19
Salary: Minimum $24.98/hour - Midpoint $33.73/hour
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
