The Georgia Cancer Center M. Bert Storey Research Building provides quality research space to promote multidisciplinary collaborations and translational research, which is essential to creating an environment that promotes innovation. Our research approach supports important National Cancer Institute goals including ensuring every cancer patient has access to the newest and most innovative clinical trials in the nation, clinicians and researchers work together to initiate new research protocols based on the clinician's interaction with the patient, and each cancer patient receives personalized treatment through the interaction of the multidisciplinary team of clinicians and allied health professionals.

The Research Associate organizes time for the acquisitions, registration, deidentification, storage, tracking and distribution of samples according to Standard Operating Procedures.

Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:

Acquire, register, deidentify, store, track and redistribute biospecimens (blood, tumors and other tissues and their derivative products) to faculty investigators who conduct IRB approved Cancer Research.

Maintain and clean laboratory equipment and identify and schedule needed repairs. Ensure that supplies, glassware and plasticware are cleaned out and autoclaved per lab protocol. Prepare and maintain stock regiments for common lab user per lab protocol.

Maintain accurate records of Biorepository holdings with periodic analysis of inventory. Oversee the collection of clinical information and its entry into appropriate databases. Maintain patient confidentiality and act as the honest broker for the Biorepository IRB.

Manage the purchasing of all orders for chemicals, supplies, equipment and biological materials; Maintain an accurate database of such lab business; Ensure that purchased materials are received in a timely fashion; Maintain and manage all laboratory inventories.

Manage and maintain the biosafety, chemical safety, and IACUC guidelines and protocols to ensure compliance.

Interact, train and assist external BRAG-Onc member sites with consent, procurement and shipment of samples to Augusta University.

Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory particularly clinical trial research. OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' research and/or clinical experience; previous supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in biobanking would be an asset.

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

Detail-oriented with strong organizational, prioritization and multi-tasking skills

Ability to organize time to coordinate with surgical schedules to collect samples

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases or willingness to learn

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)

Pay Grade: R14

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
