Responsibilities
This position is responsible for performing a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting laboratory tests, experiments, and determinations in support of AU research operations. As this position assists in implementing new clinical tests based on emerging science, this is also a technical support role within a clinical molecular diagnostic facility. The position requires all aspects of work in a clinical laboratory including, but not limited to: maintaining inventory, ordering supplies and equipment, test schedules, laboratory preparation, maintenance of equipment, quality assurance activities, patient data entry, research and development of new tests/protocols, and other duties as assigned.

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting biological and genetic research laboratory tests, experiments, and determinations to obtain data for research purposes; compile, analyze, document, and draw tentative conclusions from experimental results
Maintain sufficient inventory of material, supplies and equipment for performance of duties; clean and organize the laboratory; clean and maintain laboratory equipment
Confer with laboratory director to review work assignments and develop plans for research experiments; make minor modifications to existing laboratory procedures and techniques to meet the needs of the particular experiment as required
Review laboratory methods manual, scientific journals, abstracts and other literature for information applicable to research experiments; schedule testing, record and organize patient data, entry and resulting; organize patient information, electronic formats and/or hard copies, in a HIPPA compliant manner
Order and maintain supply and reagent inventories, maintain lab instruments and Quality Assurance
Research, development, and implementation of new tests and protocols
Update and maintain procedures and protocols (SOPs) for the laboratory to ensure compliance with biosafety, regulatory, and Best Practices requirements
Maintains all records of proficiency testing, quality control, quality assurance, and instrument functions
Investigate problems with procedures and equipment; evaluate; and troubleshoot problems relating to procedure, equipment and physical plant.
Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Ability to maintain confidentiality and to follow clinic protocols
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Experience in a clinical laboratory with a variety of instrumentation
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days/M-F *Work outside of the normal business hours may be required.*

Pay Grade: R14

Salary: $36,197

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position

Preferred
Experience in molecular biology or molecular diagnostic

Minimum Requirements
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory particularly clinical trial research

OR

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' research and/or clinical experience; previous supervisory experience
