Job Summary
The Assistant Director plans, develops, and implements transition programming for all new undergraduate students and families to Augusta University from admission through the first year. This position is responsible for orientation curriculum, development, and learning outcomes, including communicating those to presenters and assessment. Manages the Orientation Leaders (16) and Graduate Interns (2) including hiring, training and development, supervision, and performance evaluation.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities to include but not limited to:

Develops and executes transition programming - 25%
Develops and executes transition programming for new students and families to Augusta University from admissions through the first year. Creates transition educational programming for students in collaboration with the Office of Admissions and Academic Advisement/Student Success beginning at the point of admission. Develop, implement, and evaluate online pre-orientation, modules focused upon guiding students through selection of a purposeful choice of major, developing an academic mindset, and understanding program pathways for their focus area in collaboration with Student Success and Admissions colleagues. Coordinates and facilitates communications originating from a wide variety of campus departments (e.g., Financial Aid, Housing, Bursar, Academic Advising, etc.) from the point of admission until classes begin. Promotes student attendance at new student undergraduate orientation through collateral materials and at all recruitment events (i.e., undergraduate preview days, admitted student days, etc.).

Plan and implement new student orientation programs - 30%
Plan and implement new student orientation programs for freshmen and transfers in collaboration with university partners. Plan and implement 8 summer orientation programs for freshmen, 7 one day summer orientation programs for transfers, and 2 one day pre-semester (spring) orientation programs for freshmen, transfer and nearly 2,000 students and their family members. Serve as Chair to the orientation committee to develop learning outcomes and campus buy-in for the orientation program. Create training tools for campus presenters to understand learning outcomes and how to present information to new students. Evaluate learning outcomes. Manage orientation program events to include development of orientation schedule and coordination of all programming details for each orientation session date including, but not limited to, facilities, dining services, and transportation. Create multi-year plan for the orientation session schedule, in collaboration with the Enrollment Planning Council, to align with the university's Enrollment Management Plan. Collaborate with various departments and units at the university to ensure key information is disbursed to students, families, and guests and to assist in the transition of new undergraduate students to campus.

Plan and implement new student orientation programs - 2 - 20%
Collaborate with academic advisement and all academic departments on advisement and registration of all new students. Understand basic requirements from academic departments and university supported initiatives to effectively answer questions posed by new students and family members. Execute independent judgement to handle new student and parent concerns during orientation programs. Develop, implement, execute, create, coordinate, manage and supervise.

Manage Undergraduate Orientation Leaders and Graduate Interns - 20%
Manage undergraduate orientation leaders (16) and graduate interns (2). Recruit, select, train, supervise and manage orientation leader team of 20 student employees, including 2 lead orientation leaders. Teach student leadership course in spring semester, developing the curriculum and assessing learning outcomes. Plan and implement orientation leader retreat (weekend} and intensive training (2 weeks). Coordinate attendance at the Southern Regional Orientation Workshop (SROW) to include student program proposal and presentation, song/dance competition participation, and all logistics associated with travel to conference. Direct the work of the orientation leaders during each orientation session.

Manage orientation reservation system - 5%
Manage orientation reservation system, including providing leadership to the administrative assistant and student assistants in fielding questions from prospective students and their families. Facilitate the registration of all new students for orientation session dates. Trail all reservations, attendance, and registration to determine attendance rate.

Required Qualifications
Master's degree in college student personnel or related field. AND One to three years of experience in new student transition work, orientation, leadership training, and general programming

Preferred Qualifications
Experience building collaborative relationships with campus partners. Must be willing to become a member of NODA and either ACPA or NASPA.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge of emerging trends and needs of students in the first year of college. An understanding of new student development, retention and transition models. Commitment to the development of a student-centered, residential campus environment through student-centered, collaborative teamwork across academic, enrollment, and student affairs units. Depth of understanding of diversity and inclusiveness and how to communicate and action these values. Strong communication, independent judgement, initiative, computer competency, and organizational skills Ability to respond to sensitive inquiries. Demonstrated project management skills. Demonstrated team experience. Exhibits professional code of ethics. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and experience using a university records program, such as, Banner. Punctual in all job duties. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: M-F ** Work outside of the normal business hours may be required. **
Pay Grade: 15
Salary: Minimum- $38,913 - $52,52,476
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
