Position requires the ability to maintain a moderate mouse colony comprising some 20 genetically unique strains generated by the revolutionary CRISPR gene editing technology. Successful candidate will perform genotyping assays to distinguish each of the mouse lines, set up breeder cages to maintain lines or generate unique combinations of lines for experiments, perform tamoxifen injections to induce the loss or gain of a gene's function in the mouse. A database, already in place, will need daily updating. Candidate must be able to handle and work with mice and have extraordinary organizational skills with ability to multitask. Candidate will also work wit members of a team of scientists each of whom carries out a series of mouse experiments of human relevance.

Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Maintaining mouse colony through selective breeding and culling
  • Wean and genetically identify offspring through strain-specific gentyping assays
  • Harvesting tissues from mice to analyze by 1RT-PCR and Western blotting
  • Analyzing gels and updating database
  • Other related duties as assigned, incuding cross-coverage of another Research Associate working with mice

    Required Qualifications
    Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory or clinical trial research. OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' research and/or clinical experience.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Experience in molecular/cellular techniques as well as disease models of mouse; Cell culture and mouse tissue experience.

    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
    Ability to maintain confidentiality
    Willingness and ability to work with research animals
    Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
    Detail-oriented with strong organizational and prioritization skills
    Knowledge of cell culture, westerns, databases and spreadsheets
    Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases

    Shift/Salary/Benefits

    Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)

    Pay Grade: R14

    Salary: $36,197/annually - $43,000/annually

    Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
