Research Assistant

Augusta University




Responsibilities
Mouse breeding and genotyping through PCR and agarose gels and assist in the updating and maintenance of mouse database. Maintain a clean and tidy lab environment (picking up and delivering research packages to making simple solutions and stocking the laboratory with essential items for experiments to be properly carried out). Assist in cell culture and frozen sectioning and immunostaining.


The duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Mouse colony management; set up breeder pairs, perform PCR genotyping and run results of PCR on agarose gels.
  • Assistance in cell culture, Western blot.
  • Frozen sectioning; immunostaining.
  • Daily tissue culture room maintenance
  • Perform all other related duties/tasks as assigned.


    Required Qualifications
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.
    OR
    Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.


    Preferred Qualifications
    Experience in Mouse colony management, cell culture, PCR, western blot andFlow cytometry.


    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
    Ability to work independently with only general supervision
    Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
    Ability to maintain confidentiality,complete work and to meet deadlines
    Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databasesor willingness to learn
    Energetic self-starter, goal-focusedand detail-oriented with strong organizational,multi-tasking, prioritization and problem solving skills


    Shift/Salary/Benefits

    Shift: Days/M-Fwith some occasional weekend hours

    Pay Grade: R9

    Salary: $15.00/hour - $16.34/hour

    Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
