Job Summary
The Data Governance Coordinator serves as a member of the institutional research team, led by the Associate Vice President and Chief Data Officer. This position is responsible for the coordination of the institutional data governance program. The data governance program scope covers Augusta University (AU) data domains, including education, external relations, facilities, financial, research, and workforce. This role has university-wide reach and impact and offers the opportunity to build connections across academic and administrative units. The purpose of the role is to coordinate the definition, documentation, and appropriate use of AU data assets across all data domains. As all parts of the university become increasingly data-informed, the Data Governance Coordinator promotes data literacy and works to ensure that AU stakeholders know what data mean, know where to find data, and know how data should be used.

Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:

Data Governance Framework Coordination:
  • Coordinates the university's data governance framework to coincide with the University System of Georgia's Business Procedures Manual 12.0. The data governance framework ensures the integrity and usefulness of university data assets by supporting their consistent definition, documentation, and appropriate use.
  • Acts as the subject matter expert for the university regarding the interpretation, implementation and compliance with data governance policies and regulations.
  • Formulates and proposes policies to the university governance bodies. Produces documentation, instructions, usage agreements and other guidance documents.
  • Maintains the data stewardship structure at the university, including defining roles and providing support to data stewards.
  • Leads working groups to ensure data integrity, standards, and issues are resolved through collaboration with various roles on campus.

    Data Governance Systems and Tools Management: Coordinates the university's data governance function through the administration of data governance tools and systems.

  • Manages tools and systems that support the data governance function to include mission critical systems list, systems documentation, data element dictionary, reports inventory, records retention schedules and other documentation for compliance with the University System of Georgia Business Procedures Manual 12.0 Data Governance and Management.
  • Facilitiates the development of definitions and report specifications in an effort to document consistently and interpret data accurately.
  • Manages ever changing access to data based on roles and responsibilities.

    Data Governance Training and Outreach:

  • Creates and manages an outreach strategy that includes relationship development, communications, and compliance and provides training and support to Data Trustees, Data Stewards, Data Custodians, and Users.

    Data Governance Profession:

  • Represents AU in consortia with peer universities and through data governance professional organizations. Monitors trends and developments in the field of data governance and recommends strategic directions and priorities to AU leadership.

    Required Qualifications
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and five years of related experience.

    Preferred Qualifications
    The preferred candidate should have a background in data, reporting and/or systems management. Experience and knowledge in higher education institutions. Knowledge and experience of data architecture, business intelligence, and analytics. Experience in or knowledge of business process improvement methodology. Strong project planning and management skills.

  • Knowledge and experience of data architecture, business intelligence, and analytics.
  • Knowledge of higher education institutions and experience with enterprise data in a university context.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills, excellent planning, organizational and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to solve problems using creativity and innovation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to cultivate professional and business partnerships. Excellent writing skills and abilities to communicate complex ideas to diverse audiences.
  • Strong project planning and management skills.
  • Experience in or knowledge of business process improvement methodology.
  • Ability to act independently and as part of a team. A willingness to be flexible and adapt to different stakeholder needs and organizational cultures.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

    Shift/Salary/Benefits
    Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of the normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)

    Pay Grade: 21

    Salary: $60,058.00/Annually

    Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
