Job Description

This position is contingent upon ongoing and available funding

The Department of Physical Sciences is seeking applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position to teach college-level chemistry courses.

Primary job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Teach transferable, health science, major, and non-major chemistry lectures and laboratories.

  • Maintain records, submit grades, and communicate with department and college personnel using established college/department protocol and the college's learning management system.

  • Develop Syllabi and course materials; evaluate student mastery of skills and competencies required by course outcomes; provide an excellent learning environment; provide student advisement; participate in recruitment activities and program/curriculum development.

  • Participate in program/division meetings and activities and serve on department and college­wide committees.

  • Assignments may be multi-campus with the possibility of day, evening, and/or weekend classes.

  • Appropriate and up-to-date knowledge of the chemistry subject matter.

  • Experience using technology as an instructional aide where appropriate to enhance student learning.

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to maintain an established schedule, including evenings and weekends, and multiple campus teaching assignments that may vary by semester.

  • Understanding the role of college faculty in promoting equity, equality, and inclusion.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support the mission of the college and the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE).

  • Support the expansion of chemistry courses, programs, and mission of the college and NSHE system.

  • Reducing and aligning remedial sequences within the department.

  • Building accountability and benchmarks for institutional assessment and evaluation.

  • Prepare and teach courses in chemistry to a diverse and multicultural student population based on established Student Learning Outcomes (SLO).

  • Apply a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to the needs of the student population and standards of the discipline.

  • Participate in college and departmental responsibilities including curriculum review and revision, program review, assessment of student learning outcomes at the course and program level, committees, councils, work groups, community service activities, task forces, and professional development.

  • Evaluate student progress and provide clear and timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.

  • Provide teaching and mentoring services to students in a manner that does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected categories.

  • Support the institution, school, and department goals through active and collegial engagement in decision-making and unit-level planning.

  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the department Chair, Dean, and/or Associate Vice President, Vice President, and Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Chemistry or other related fields from a regionally accredited college or university.

  • Two years of teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree in Chemistry or other related fields from a regionally accredited college or university.

  • Experience teaching instrumentation and analytical chemistry courses at the third- and fourth-year levels.

  • At least one year of experience teaching at a college.

  • Experience with curriculum development.

  • Experience teaching online courses.

  • Experience teaching and/or working with diverse student and staff populations.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the course and classroom management.

  • Demonstrated professional development/activities within your field outside of the classroom.

Starting Salary Range

Initial salary placement is based on educational level and total years of full-time equivalent teaching experience. For example, for an instructor with a master’s degree, the salary range would be $46,691 to $59,768 annually. The entire salary range is up to $71,123 annually with a Doctorate and 10 years of experience. A maximum of 10 years of experience will be considered for initial salary placement purposes.
