Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for providing advice and assistance to School of Pharmacy researchers in the preparation and submission of sponsored proposals. The employee will work with the Research and Sponsored Programs office and other schools/colleges to foster research collaborations, and ensure compliance with federal, state, agency and University regulations and policies. This includes the creation of budgets and other grant documents for proposals that adhere to institutional and sponsor requirements, as well as work other agreement types such as MTAs and research contracts. Post award duties include management and submission of progress reports, no-cost extensions and sub-award management. In concert with the post-award accountant, this employee will monitor grants for accurate spending, meet with Principal Investigators (PIs) to discuss research portfolios, and assist with close-out at end of grant.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Manages research administration activities from proposal preparation through closeout on behalf of a unit. Reviews and approves proposal submissions, contract negotiations, project setups, compliance, and/or financial reporting. Develops and oversees implementation of operations and strategic planning to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements within a school/college/division/unit. May manage a programmatic unit and/or personnel.
10% Executes research administration operational policies and procedures including financial, administrative, staffing, and compliance on behalf of a unit
5% Reviews and approves programmatic transactions spanning the life-cycle of sponsored projects to ensure compliance with institutional and/or sponsor policies and procedures
5% Serves as a key resource to leadership and staff in the unit as well as a liaison to partners and stakeholders
50% Executes activities related to proposal submission, contract negotiation, and/or award setup on behalf of a unit
20% Executes activities related to financial compliance, audit, or reporting on behalf of a unit
5% Provides training to faculty, staff, and/or administrators within the unit regarding policy, procedure, and/or execution of sponsored project administration
5% May have authority to submit proposals, agreements, or invoices to a sponsor on behalf of the principal investigator or project director

EDUCATION:
Preferred
Bachelor's Degree

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
-Minimum of two years Research Administrator experience
-Budget management experience of Federally-funded projects
-Excellent organizational skills necessary to manage multiple complex tasks
-Excellent writing and verbal communication skills in order to communicate complex regulations and procedures
-Comprehensive working knowledge of Excel, Word and Adobe Acrobat

Preferred:
-Experience with UW or other university pre- and post-award grant management preferred, including budget preparation
-Familiarity with UW accounting policies and procedures, including purchasing, travel, reimbursements, cost transfers
-Knowledge of NIH and NSF regulations and procedures, including, but not limited to development of budgets for continuation and renewal proposals and electronic submissions (Cayuse, WISPER, eRA Commons, RPPR); expenditures; and reporting
-Knowledge of UW WISPER and WISER systems
-Ability to analyze and audit own work for accuracy including identification of errors as well as problem-solving the solutions
