JOB SUMMARY:
The research specialist will work closely with the principal investigator and the current head technician to perform experiments related to protein purification and bacterial genetics.

The primary project goal is the study of proteins that are involved in bacterial DNA repair. Lab work is multidisciplinary and will include molecular, microbiological, and biochemical methods. The research specialist will manage lab inventories, order supplies, oversee sample preparation, perform sample packing, and coordinate with a large and international team of collaborators.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Develops, designs, and conducts one or more research projects and organizes daily operation of projects and specialized research areas to ensure work meets established objectives under moderate supervision.
50% Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
10% Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders
10% Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
10% Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials
10% Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers
10% Performs literature reviews and writes reports

EDUCATION:
Required
Bachelor's Degree

QUALIFICATIONS:
A strong background in microbiology, molecular biology and/or biochemistry is desired. Applicants with experience in at least some of the areas of protein purification, sterile technique, and bacterial genetics is highly desired.

Must be highly motivated with excellent time management skills; ability to organize and maintain accurate records; strong attention to detail; and the ability to work in a team environment and laboratory setting. Demonstrated ability to learn new techniques and train others is desired.
