Join OU Health Physicians as a member of our team-based care environment working alongside the OU Health Physicians faculty, residents, and staff. Being a nurse in an academic medical setting allows you to work at the top of your license and to participate in the training of the next generation of physicians and physician assistants. We have opportunities for you in areas such as pediatrics, women’s health, internal medicine, psychiatry, family medicine, surgery, and specialty health at one of our clinics throughout the Tulsa County.

Representative Responsibilities:

  • Patient Preparation.  Prepares patient for examination by the physician by having charts ready, etc.

  • Information Gathering.  Takes and records various readings such as heart and respiratory rate, blood pressure, weight, body temperature, etc.  Collects samples from patients including blood, urine, etc.  Prepares samples for analysis or shipment.  Collects all laboratory reports, data, and records. 

  • Patient Follow Up.  Makes follow up patient appointments, or follows up on patient appointments.  Answers routine questions from patients, family, etc. 

  • Medication Administration.  Under direction of physician or other medical personnel, administers medication to patients. 

  • Surgery Scheduling.  To include booking operating rooms, ordering surgical supplies and arranging for all preoperative laboratory studies for patients.
  • As Needed.  Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

Required Skills:

  1. Proficient nursing skills applicable to this position.
  2. Must be proficient in typing.
  3. Excellent customer service skills.
  4. Must be able to work successfully with a diverse group of faculty, other staff, and patients.
  5. Must be able to follow directions and work as part of a team. 
  6. Must be able to follow patient safety and confidentiality (HIPAA) guidelines.

Required Education:
HS/GED; graduate of an approved Practical Nurse training program; or a recent graduate or a student nurse who will be graduating within 4-6 weeks

 

Required Licensure:

Must have a valid Licensed Practical Nurse license issued by the State of Oklahoma; or in the case of a recent or upcoming graduate, be eligible to obtain a license within 30 days of job interview.

 

Physical Requirements: 

Outpatient medical environment and exposure dependent upon assignment. The  essential functions of this position will involve mobility (walking; being able to stand for long periods of time during patient exams/procedures, etc.). Dependent upon assignment, must be able to lift up to 50 lbs in the function of patient positioning and assistance.
