Job Description

This position is contingent upon ongoing and available funding

The Criminal Justice and Emergency Services Department at The College of Southern Nevada invites applications for a Full-Time Fire Technology Instructor to begin Fall 2023.  The successful candidate will demonstrate the required industry and teaching experience.

Primary job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Teach didactic and laboratory courses. Assignments may be multi-campus with​ day, evening and/or weekend classes.
  • Develop course syllabi and materials.
  • Evaluate student mastery of skills and competencies required by course outcomes.
  • Maintain office hours to provide student advisement, participate in recruitment activities, and program/curriculum development.
  • Participate in School, Department, and Program meetings and activities.
  • Serve on School, Department, and College-Wide committees.
  • Other Duties as Assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited College/University
  • 3 years of experience as a Fire Officer or Higher
  • NV State Fire Marshall – Fire Officer Instructor II Certification or equivalent OR
  • Associate Degree from a regionally accredited College/University
  • 5 years of experience as a Fire Officer or Higher
  • NV State Fire Marshall – Fire Officer Instructor II Certification or equivalent OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal higher education in curriculum and instruction, workforce education, or similar educational theory.
  • Prior didactic experience with an intricate knowledge and expertise in the FESHE curriculum.
  • Any current EMS credential or certification (EMT, Advanced EMT or Paramedic)
  • Membership in professional organizations.
  • Documentation of active participation in local public safety community.
  • Documentation of on-going professional development in the Fire Technology and/or EMS discipline.
  • Experience working with a diverse learning and multicultural population.
  • Higher level postsecondary education.

Starting Salary Range

Initial salary placement is based on educational level and total years of full-time equivalent teaching experience. For example, for an instructor with a Master’s degree the salary range would be $46,691 to $59,768 annually. The entire salary range is up to $71,123 annually with a Doctorate and 10 years’ experience. A maximum of 10 years of experience will be considered for the initial salary placement purposes.
