Description:
The Composition Program seeks an adjunct faculty member (per course) to teach English 108 Advanced Argument and research on campus in Spring 2023.

English 108 Advanced Argument and Research

Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays, 11:45am-12:50pm

This course will be taught in-person on campus in Moraga, California.

In addition to teaching, instructors in the Composition Program are expected to hold regular office hours in order to provide students with support outside of the classroom. Instructors are also expected to participate in faculty development including workshops, class observations, and syllabus collaboration. Course design must follow the program's common syllabus, meeting the requirements described.

Course Description:

Designed for transfer students, English 108 develops research skills needed to structure complex arguments. In addition, students practice evaluating sources, exploring research questions through primary and secondary research, and supporting claims with appropriate evidence. Through a scaffolded process, students write and revise two or more essays, at least one of which is a substantial research essay that presents an extended argument. This course prepares students for the Writing in the Disciplines courses that they will encounter in their major.

Qualifications:

Minimum:


MA in Rhetoric and Composition or MA in Literature.


At least two years of experience teaching first-year writing as the instructor of record at Saint Mary’s College of California or equivalent courses at an accredited institution. Experience must be within the last five years.


Successful completion of graduate coursework in Composition pedagogy.

Preferred:


PhD in Rhetoric and Composition, PhD in English, or EdD in a similarly-defined field.
