Responsibilities

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students/Director, Office of Community Life, the Coordinator, Office of Community Life works to assist members of the College community with the cultivation and maintenance of a safe, inclusive, fair, and caring educational environment that is conducive to learning and personal growth. The coordinator is responsible for engaging in equity-minded and student conduct-centered approaches of community living to develop and oversee student conduct and conflict education case management practices. Responsibilities include management of the College's non-academic student conduct process; coordination of individual and organizational student conduct; implementation of a comprehensive educational process for helping members of the college community to understand their individual and collective rights and responsibilities; and the expansion of institutional pathways and educational programming regarding conflict resolution and student skill development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES

Student Conduct Case Management - 40%

• Ensure consistent and timely management of student conduct and conflict education cases, taking into consideration community safety and well-being needs; the rights of individuals and organizations; legal requirements; and student educational opportunities
• Manage student conduct and conflict education practices
• Development, implementation, assessment, and improvement of spectrum of resolution options for student conduct concerns, which include, but are not limited to, conflict coaching, facilitated dialogue, mediated discussion, shuttle diplomacy, and restorative justice practices
• Investigate, manage, and adjudicate student conduct cases that may result in a status sanction ranging from warning to dismissal from the institution
• Serve as a hearing board panelist for alleged violations of The Student Handbook, including cases of sexual misconduct and other Title IX-related matters
• Monitor sanction completion related to violations of The Student Handbook

Student Staff Management and Supervision - 20%

• Recruit, hire, train, and directly or indirectly supervise student support staff (e.g., Peer Conduct Council, student workers, graduate assistants)
• Develop and direct the implementation of student staff on-boarding, on-going, and professional development training content
• Monitor student support staff performance and provide direction and assistance
• Evaluate, counsel, and make recommendations regarding student support staff retention and employment decisions

Office Administration - 10%

• Serve as an initial point of contact for inquiries regarding the Office of Community Life
• Manage and monitor the office communication accounts (e.g., phone, email, social media)
• Coordinate record requests and the certification process for student conduct records
• Assist with scheduling administrative and appellate hearing boards
• Aid with the organization and timely dissemination of case information to administrative hearing officers
• Coordinate and manage the Dean of Students Hold process in collaboration with the Office of the Registrar

Community Outreach - 10%

• Represent the Office of Community Life at campus events, fairs, workshops, etc.
• Conduct educational workshops and training sessions regarding student accountability and conflict resolution processes for students, faculty, and staff
• Assist with the design and facilitation of training programs for hearing board members, administrative panelists, and advisors
• Assist with the development and delivery of educational and skill-development programming and workshops (e.g., alcohol and other drugs education; bystander intervention; etc.)
• Serve as the campus administrator of the Simplicity Advocate conduct management system and provide training to campus users

Program Evaluation and Assessment - 10%

• Review and make recommendations related to student conduct policies, procedures, and practices
• Implement processes for assessing and evaluating the quality and effectiveness of Office of Community Life objectives and the development of services to meet student needs
• Create timely reports regarding student conduct-related data requested by the Director
• Assist with the coordination of biannual department self-assessment using relevant CAS & ASCA standards and instruments

Professional Development - 5%

• Keep well-informed regarding current literature and developments within the field of student life; student conduct; conflict resolution and education; and related professional organizations
• Attend pertinent conferences, conventions, and webinars, and present information to on-campus colleagues for shared development
• Participate in research relevant to student life; student development; student conduct; and conflict resolution and education

Other - 5%

• Serve on department and campus committees, programs, and projects as assigned
• Perform other college-related duties as assigned by the Director

Experience and Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education
• Thorough knowledge of student conduct theory and practice
• Ability to analyze complex issues and effectively prioritize and manage tasks in a fast-paced work environment
• Critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Demonstrated technical skill sufficient to comprehensively use and oversee the maintenance of a complex and secure conduct management system (e.g., Simplicity Advocate)
• Demonstrated knowledge of, commitment to, and experience working within a diverse community. A successful candidate will express an understanding of identity intersectionality and communicate strategies for inclusive community-building.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced degree in higher education, student development, conflict resolution, counseling, or another area relevant to the work of the Office of Community Life
• Knowledge and utilization of student development theory
• At least three years of student life administration experience at an institution of higher education
• Experience and expertise managing a student conduct process
• Demonstrated knowledge and expertise regarding government statutory and regulatory compliance (e.g., Clery Act, FERPA, Title IX, VAWA, etc.)
• Demonstrated ability to develop, facilitate, and lead training curricula, presentations, and other learning activities to variety of audiences (e.g., students, staff, faculty, etc.)
• Proficiency working with common College-specific computer application programs (e.g., Simplicity Advocate, Datatel Colleague, Google Suite, StarRez)
• Knowledge and familiarity of the spectrum model of conflict resolution
• Active involvement in a related professional organization

Note: Some evening and seasonal weekend hours are required.
