Ball State University Information Technology is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Analyst. This position will be responsible for services related to data backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity. This includes managing, maintaining, and assisting with the planning process for the enterprise backup solution, disaster recovery, and the on campus storage solution. The position will also serve as a backup for and assist with the on premise virtualization environment. Job Function:

Design, manage, and maintain Ball State University's data backup, disaster recovery, and business continuance systems; manage and maintain Ball State University's on-campus storage assets; function as backup administrator to Ball State University's enterprise virtualization environment.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university by date of appointment.
Or, in lieu of Bachelor’s degree:
Associate’s degree plus an additional combination of education or experience in IT equivalent to two years.
Or, High school diploma or GED plus an additional combination of education or experience in IT equivalent to four years.

Minimum Experience:

Demonstrated knowledge of current industry standards for Disaster Recovery planning and Business Continuity process development. At least five years of experience in disaster recovery and business continuance planning and implementation. At least three years of experience managing and maintaining an enterprise storage environment. At least three years of experience managing and administering an enterprise virtualization environment.

Preferred Experience:

Experience with the installation, customization, monitoring, and maintenance of Rubrik Enterprise. Experience with Rubrik Polaris product for backup and disaster recovery in the AWS environment.
Experience with Azure Recovery Services for backup and disaster recovery in the Azure Environment. Experience with Rubrik Polaris product for backup and disaster recovery in the Google Cloud Platform environment. Experience with VMWare.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain the University's Enterprise backup system; involves installation, configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of the current University's Enterprise backup solution.
  • Develop, test, and maintain disaster recovery and business continuance plans and documentation. Coordinate the necessary resources within Information Technology in an effort to make sure that needs are met for all areas within IT.
  • Ensure that all backups are maintained according to established BSU procedures and industry best practices.
  • Frequently work with organizational staff to identify and resolve incidents related to backup and restoration.
  • Participate in planning, implementation, maintenance, monitoring and troubleshooting for storage and backup solutions. Coordinate vendor update and roadmaps in order to keep the IT staff informed and up to date on the latest available technology.
  • Function as technical consultant to Information Technology Services (ITS) management on storage acquisition, planning, and utilization. Proactively review existing backups and storage needs working with clients to confirm resources are not overprovisioned and confirm that backup and storage are still needed.
  • Provide input into ITS planning process regarding projected resources needed for BSU backup and disaster recovery systems.
  • Consult with the Information Systems Architect, director of IT Security and others to formulate data backup retention policies.
  • Create and maintain backup and recovery procedures to meet high availability and mission-critical business needs. Keep apprised of current industry standards and apply standards that best apply to Ball State.
  • Perform regular and scheduled disaster recovery restores and facilitate application testing and validation, report findings to management and make recommendations for improvements as needed to ensure disaster recovery plans are current and compliant.
  • Serve as the point of contact for any backup troubleshooting. Initiate support tickets with backup vendors and coordinate support calls when evaluating issues.
  • Manage and maintain the University’s on-campus storage environment. Monitor storage performance and maintain storage hardware (maintenance, upgrades, and patches). Forecast storage needs, and make requests for storage resource increases, decreases and replacements.
  • Function as backup to the Enterprise Systems Administrator/Analyst for the Ball State’s virtualization environment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
