Job Overview
The University of Cincinnati, College of Engineering and Applied Science invites applications for a Senior CNC Operator/Laboratory Associate, full-time staff position.

The Senior CNC operator/Laboratory Associate will apply the use of CNC/conventional machining in the production of student and research projects parts production where appropriate, troubleshoot and repair laboratory systems and equipment used in thermo/fluid, strength of materials, welding, and machining laboratories, and teach machining and/or welding laboratory classes. Serve as a resource for all machines/laboratory users.
Essential Functions
CNC/Machine Shop:
Programming and operation of CNC machines and willingness to learn the use of new CNC machines
Operation of conventional machine tools as well as other fabrication equipment such as sheet-metal cutting and forming (including Plasma CAM), welding and casting.
Work with students and faculty in the fabrication of component parts for student senior design and research projects
Oversight and safety of the machine shop, senior design lab, welding lab, CNC, and casting lab
Tack training certificates for students working in labs
Develop CNC curriculum demonstrations that can be used in class. Apply the use of CNC in the production of student and research project part production where appropriate. Keep up to date with CNC related software changes and generally integrate the use of CNC into everyday operations.
Provide training, supervision, and assistance to students and/or researchers regarding the use of machines

Laboratory:
Set-up, troubleshoot and supervise the use of lab equipment and/or experiments.
Provide training, supervision, and assistance to instructors regarding the use of lab or lab equipment.
Provide support for laboratory instructors. Distribute handouts, manuals, and documentation to instructors.
Fabricate and modify parts to make or repair lab equipment.

Teaching:
Teach machining and/or welding classes (2 sections per semester, total 6 sections per year)
Essential Functions Continued
General:
Fabricate and modify parts to repair machines.
See that the Machine Shop is kept clear, orderly and all available equipment is in good working condition. Troubleshoot and make minor equipment repairs.
Regularly evaluate surplus equipment and materials, then disposition as needed.
Recruit and supervise student assistants working in the Machine Shop and other MET Labs. Monitor and approve hours worked.
Record numbers of users and hours worked in the Shop. File project notes for future reference. Maintain purchasing and safety records for the Shop.
Perform supply inventories and purchase all needed equipment, repair parts, tooling, consumable supplies, and raw materials for the Machine Shop.
See that all users of the Shop receive proper safety instruction related to the operation they are to perform. Work with EH&S to perform safety audits and assure that safety regulations are met. See that all personal and machine safety equipment is available and in good condition.
Maintain supplies and equipment inventory and/or quality control activity. Order supplies/equipment as needed.
Develop and implement safety programs.
Required Education
Associate’s Degree
Four (4) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.
Required Experience
Two (2) years of experience in an area of technical specialty.
Additional Qualifications Considered
Willingness to learn and master new processes and CNC equipment.
Ability to solve complex technical problems.
Strong spoken and written communication skills.
Basic knowledge of Word and Excel to create and format documents and spreadsheets and ability to learn and adapt to new software as the need arises.
Physical ability to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds and climb and work on ladders.
Knowledge and safe operation and maintenance of basic hand and power tools.
