Job Description Summary:
A Research Assistant is needed in the field of obesity and related metabolic diseases-conducting experiments to investigate the relationship between adipose tissue and systemic metabolism. The Research Assistant will conduct independent research, develop novel research tools and methods. Research Assistant will be expected to adhere to the highest standards for conducting research and assisting students/postdocs and the PI with ongoing research endeavors. The Research Assistant will be expected to accurately follow specific instructions and work well with a team of researchers.
Job Description:
Required Qualifications:
Education: BA/BS degree with an emphasis in biological science, or a related discipline.
Skills: Demonstrated abilities that include attention to detail, strong work ethic, and good interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Education: Master's degree with an emphasis in biological science
Work Experience: Prior experience with animal husbandry, biospecimen processing, general biochemical and molecular biology research methods including pipetting, centrifugation, reagent handling, etc.
Experience in animal husbandry including colony management, tissue culture, using a biosafety cabinet, and BSL-2 practices.
Job Duties Outlined:
General laboratory management: ordering and tracking invoices, organizing, and maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies
Mouse colony management, breeding, weaning, genotyping, handling and injecting for in vivo metabolic assays including glucose and insulin tolerance tests.
Experience with primary cell and general tissue culture
Molecular biology related tasks: PCR, qPCR, immunoblotting techniques microscopy, and basic image analysis
Assist with multiple research projects in terms of experimental design, implementation, and data analysis
Need to have good communication skills and prepare presentations for lab meetings and local conferences
Assist with additional activities and duties as directed by The Principal Investigator.
