Summary

The Department of Pathology, Division of Pathology Informatics is seeking a team member to fill a Clinical Business Systems Analyst, Senior position. Under general direction, the business systems analyst senior formulates and defines systems scope and objectives based on both user needs and a good understanding of applicable business systems and industry requirements. Must be able to devise or modify procedures and processes to solve complex problems related to the laboratory workflow, considering laboratory information system (LIS) limitations, operating time, and form of desired results. Includes analysis of department and user needs, documentation of requirements, and translation of the analysis into configurations needed to implement the procedure or process. Participates in staff development, cross-training, and mentors less-experienced analysts. Able to work at a high technical level while considering the business implications of new developments and techniques to the current and future business environment. Can analyze, compare, and evaluate various courses of action and make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, while maintaining communication with division and department leadership. Must be able to work independently on projects when given a concrete project plan and tasks.

Responsibilities*

Participate in test/database build activities across different clinical laboratory functional areas
Perform regression testing from testing plan/scripts and use cases for new software versions and patches
Assist with coordinating software version upgrades and corrections as needed
Protect the integrity of the data and escalates issues appropriately
Provide technical assistance and support to areas involved with database and hospital information system management, the LIS and electronic medical record (EMR)
Analyze, compare, and evaluate solutions independently based on the laboratory’s needs
Develop standard operating procedures for using the LIS and auxiliary software
Communicate procedural changes to affected users and analysts
Implement workflows/workflow changes within the laboratories and LIS
Coordinate and assist with software version upgrades and corrections as needed
Test and validate software and interfaces, as requested
Document and track new issues within the LIS and EMR
Keep manager and directors informed of issues as they arise
Adhere to all accreditation requirements regarding the LIS and EHR
Daily troubleshooting and follow up regarding EHR and other HIS issues
Review and troubleshoot error queues as needed
Assist with creating test plans and use case scripts for current and future workflows
Senior role: Create testing scripts for current and future workflows
Assist with defining system scope and objectives of projects
Senior role: Define scope and objectives of projects
Test and validate software and interfaces, as requested
Senior role would also include the following responsibilities:

Create testing plans and use case scripts for new software versions and patches
Develop project plans and timelines for new projects and directives
Define application function and provide concepts for change requests not currently available within the application
Present information regarding LIS and lab workflow on a variety of platforms and in meetings
Formulate and define system scope and objectives of projects and applications
Train new employees, current and visiting pathologists, students, and support staff as needed
Coordinate setup, validation and scheduling change implementation for instrument and system interfaces with enterprise departments
Required Qualifications*

In order to be considered for this position the applicant must have met or will have met all the required qualifications prior to the start date of employment.

Intermediate:

Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science, allied health, computer science/information technology, or other related field and/or 2 or more years of relevant experience
2 or more years of experience working is a large complex healthcare environment
Senior:

Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science, allied health, computer science/information technology, or other related field and/or 5 or more years of relevant experience
5 or more years of experience working is a large complex healthcare environment


Desired Qualifications*

Understanding of the clinical laboratories and their workflows within a large hospital system, with particular interest in outreach services and reference laboratory support
Understanding of large healthcare organizations and data structures
Experience supporting laboratory information systems (LIS) such as SCC Soft Computer
Experience with interfaces at a healthcare facility, including working knowledge of the HL7 messaging protocol
Self-motivated, curious, able to troubleshoot issues and find novel solutions to customer problems
Ability to work with multiple teams; must be able to communicate well with others

Background Screening
