Job Description

Under supervision, perform custodial work required for the cleaning and maintenance of facilities following proper procedures and techniques for equipment and cleaning products.

The Ball State University Student Center has an opening for a 3rd shift custodian on the beautiful Ball State University campus. Job Function:

Under supervision, perform custodial work required for the cleaning and maintenance of facilities following proper procedures and techniques for equipment and cleaning products.

Minimum Education:

1.High School diploma or equivalent (GED).

Minimum Experience:

1.No allergies to soaps, cleaning agents, chemicals or environmental factors in custodial service.
2.Must be able to climb ladders, scaffolding of various heights to perform duties.
3.Must be able to read and comprehend all specified policies and procedures for safety, hazardous materials information, University policies, procedures and communications, and perform basic mathematical functions.
4.Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License, if required by assignment, and be insurable under the university's auto fleet policy.
5.Must be able to perform all mental and physical requirements as outlined in each job duty.
6. Must have at least one year work experience (full time or part time).
7.You must be 18 years or older.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Clean, renovate, and renew, resilient, wood, and hard floor surface finishes, i.e., dust mop, sweep, wet mop, spot mop, scrub, polish and spray buff, strip, seal, wax, etc.
  • Maintain carpet floor coverings, i.e., vacuum, remove spots and stains, extraction cleaning of carpet and upholstered furniture, etc.
  • Clean and service all areas in restrooms to include, but not limited to, lavatory, toilet, urinal, showers, bath tub areas, etc.
  • Dust, vacuum, clean and/or polish furniture and surfaces; clean facilities, fixtures, hardware and windows; change lighting and clean fixtures as required.
  • Collect and dispose of trash, refuse, recycling materials and debris into designated receptacles.
  • Sweep debris, and/or sweep or shovel snow from outside entrances, landings, steps, walks, etc.; clean exterior surfaces of windows, doors, and other building fixtures.
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of job related chemicals, and environmental, health and physical concerns.
  • Lock and unlock doors as required to perform job related duties in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Set up audio visual equipment in meeting rooms and lounges:
  • Guide, assist and train student custodial employees.
  • Set rooms according to custodial worksheet and customer specification; arrange, move and/or replace furniture, supplies and miscellaneous equipment from room to room as required; report all items requiring repair to supervisor and/or group leaders; perform minor repairs to furniture and building fixtures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
