Job Description

Job Summary
The candidate will perform biomolecular, immunochemical, and behavioral procedures in a research laboratory by applying scientific techniques and analytical principles. He/she will perform western blot and immunohistochemical analyses of human and rodent tissues. He/she will conduct statistical analyses and produce results. He/she will help with colonies maintenance (breeding, weaning, procedures, genotyping). Discipline of interest will be the study neuroactive steroids in impulse-control disorders (pathological reactive aggression, Tourette syndrome) and depression.
Responsibilities
Essential functions:
· Biomolecular, immunochemical, and behavioral research.
· Helps with the maintenance of rodents (mice, and occasionally rats) colonies (including PCR and electrophoresis).
· Helps conducting behavioral experiments and analyses in the field of impulse-control disorders.
· Analyzes data, summarizes results.
· Works under the supervision and mentoring of post-docs or scientists assigned to his/her project.
· Purchases laboratory supplies, materials, and research animals.
Problem solving: This position will assist senor laboratory personnel in planning and designing new methods and techniques. Work will require exercising independent judgement and basic theoretical knowledge of steroids, neuroactive steroids, and neurotransmitters biochemistry. This position is supervised and coordinated by/in accordance with laboratory personnel. Work will be carried out in accordance with periodic conferences with the Principal Investigator.

Work Environment and Level of Frequency that may be required:
Nearly Continuously: Laboratory, animal facilities and office environment.
Often: Exposure to animals, Infectious disease, oils (air or skin exposure), hazards (exposure to chemicals).

Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking, standing, sitting.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or other scientific disciplines in a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required; knowledge of complex laboratory techniques, equipment, terminology, materials and substances. Skilled in the use of laboratory equipment, ability to create and analyze statistical calculations and prepare reports required; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required. OSHA training and certification in animal care and use or the willingness to complete the certification may be required by some departments.

Preferences
Previous expertise with western blot and immunohistochemistry preferred. Previous expertise with animal manipulation appreciated (handling and manipulation, drug administration). Demonstrated human relations, and effective communication skills also required. Bachelor (or Master) in the field of Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacy, Neuroscience, Pharmacology, Pharmacotherapy, Toxicology. Colonies maintenance (rodents) and procedures. Biomolecular (and immunohistochemical) expertise/knowledge. Fluency in English (written and oral). Strong motivation, willingness to improve and learn, willingness to help, collaborate and Teamwork.
