Summary

The Krishnan Lab at the Baylor College of Medicine seeks a motivated and energetic technician to assist with an NIH-funded research basic/clinical translational research program focused on the intersections between epilepsy and mental health. The technician responsibilities will be focused on data analysis, implementation of mouse home-cage monitoring and programming FDA-approved actigraphy devices for patient use. Secondary responsibilities will include assisting with mouse colony management. This position offers an opportunity to participate in cutting edge translational research and will provide a broad preparation for graduate education or careers in the biological data sciences.

Job Duties

  • Executes instrumented home-cage recordings of mouse behavior, as well as data extraction, graphing and basic statistical comparisons.
  • Works on actigraphy (programming, extracting data, graphing). 
  • Works on data analysis and conducts implementation of mouse home-cage monitoring and programming FDA-approved actigraphy devices for patient use. 
  • Assists with maintenance of a colony of cages, including weaning mice, transporting mice and simple behavioral assays, home-cage set up and protocol implementation. Receives in-house training for all the responsibilities.
  • Performs simple tasks required to maintain the mouse colony. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Be motivated to learn and recognizes the importance of being consistent.
