Summary

The laboratory of Will Hudson at Baylor College of Medicine has a full-time position available for a Research Technician. Baylor College of Medicine is a top-ranked medical school located in the Texas Medical Center, the largest biomedical complex in the world. The Hudson laboratory focuses on understanding the immune response to tumors and viruses, with the goal of creating better immunotherapies for cancer and infectious disease. It applies cutting-edge technologies in their work and are dedicated to mentoring the next generation of scientists. 

Job Duties

  • Works to support ongoing research in the lab.
  • Assists in the design and execution of laboratory experiments, techniques, and protocols.
  • Performs scientific experiments related to basic scientific research under the direction of the supervisor.
  • Conducts cell culture experiments under the direction of the supervisor.
  • Prepares solutions and reagents for project execution.
  • Documents results. 
  • Manages laboratory stocks and maintains the laboratory in a clean, organized state.
  • Designs, conducts, evaluates, and troubleshoots experiments.
  • Assists in animal experiments that includes mouse handling, colony management, and genotyping with polymerase chain reaction (PCR). 
  • Processes tissues and tumors to isolate immune cells for further study.
  • Performs flow cytometry to study white blood cell populations.
  • Isolates and purifies DNA and RNA.
  • Assists other lab members in the performance of their experiments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biology or chemistry.
  • Experience in laboratory is desirable. 
  • Be motivated, well-organized, and collaborative.
