Position Summary

The Department of Biological Sciences, College of Southern Nevada is seeking qualified applicants for an Administrative Assistant II (AAII).  This position will be located at the Department office (Building H, room 301) of the Charleston campus, and report directly to the Department Chair. Under direct supervision, responsibilities Include:

  • Office Manager for the Charleston Campus: answer student and faculty inquiries, sort and distribute mail, process documents, and work with the Chair to ensure that the office is run in a professional manner

  • Course Schedule Input and Maintenance: work with the AAII at the North Las Vegas (NLV) campus to input the Biological Sciences course schedule for fall, spring, and summer semesters, proofread course schedules, process course submission forms, ensure that faculty are correctly entered into the schedule, and help prepare faculty workload forms

  • Purchasing and Account Maintenance: prepare and track purchase requests, payment vouchers, and limited purchase orders, and provide financial reports to the Department Chair

  • Contract Preparation: prepare all LOA contracts for part-time faculty overloads

  • Maintain Office Supplies: inventory control and ordering for office supplies at the Charleston campus

  • Provide administrative support to the Department Chair as requested

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of clerical and administrative support experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintaining records and files; preparing a variety of materials using a personal computer or word processor; assisting customers in completing forms and applications; and/or performing secretarial duties in support of professional staff; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Desire to work as part of a cohesive team

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution

  • Ability to manage other employees

  • Proficiency in the use of MS Word, Outlook, and Excel

  • Experience with contract preparation and onboarding of employees in Workday

Weekly Schedule

Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Starting Salary

 

Grade 25, Step 1 - $ 34,305.84

 

Per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC 284.170), salaries for initial appointments for classified positions typically begin at Step 1.
