Job Description

The Advanced Manufacturing, Automation Instructor will develop and instruct lab and lecture courses, develop student learning outcomes, and course descriptions.  This includes organizing instruction towards achieving student learning outcomes; the selection of textbooks and other curriculum; conferring with students; evaluating student mastery; and providing a safe and positive classroom and laboratory environment.  Primary teaching areas are in Advanced Manufacturing Technology topics such as:

  • Mechanical Technology
  • Automation/ Robotics
  • Programmable Logic Controls and Microprocessors/Controllers
  • Industrial Electricity and Electronics
  • AC/DC Motors
  • Motor Control and DC/AC Drives
  • Related Engineering Technology and Technical Physics classes

The Advanced Manufacturing Instructor, per the Chair of the Department of Applied Technologies for credit courses, and the Executive Director of Advanced Manufacturing for non-credit courses offered through the Division of Workforce and Economic Development (DWED), will assist with the development, alignment and collaboration between credit and non-credit manufacturing programs.  The instructor will also facilitate partnerships with industry to address manufacturing industry education and training needs.

Other duties will include program assessment and curriculum development; student advising and mentoring; scholarship of teaching and learning- upholding professional and ethical standards; outreach to the college, community, and profession; supervising student assistants and staff as necessary; and duties as assigned by the Department Chair. 

The instructor is expected to participate in department, and college wide committees, as well as student recruitment activities.  The instructor will participate and assist the team to maintain and develop strong industry and community partnerships, within and outside of the program advisory committee.  They will also commit to continuing their professional development as an educator through attendance to industry conferences and membership of professional associations.    

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in the following: Mechatronics, Mechanical or Electrical Technology, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.  Degrees in related fields are also acceptable.  All degrees must be from a regionally accredited College or University. 
  • 3 years of industrial experience.
  • 1 year of teaching experience in Career and Technical Education.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Dual bachelor’s degrees or higher, one focused upon Industrial, Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering or Technology; and one focused on Electrical or Electronics Engineering or Technology.   The degrees can be in related fields and need to be from a regionally accredited College or University.
  • Leadership/ Management Experience.
  • Six or more years of work experience in industry.
  • Two or more years of experience teaching in Career and Technical Education.
  • Industrial Certifications.
  • Experience teaching on-line/hybrid classes.
  • Experience teaching on-line/hybrid classes using Canvas.
  • Experience creating college curriculum.
  • Experience developing either industrial or engineering technology lab(s) in a college setting.
  • Experience working in diverse multicultural situations.

Starting Salary Range

Initial salary placement is based on educational level and total years of full-time equivalent teaching experience. For example, for an instructor with a Master’s degree the salary range would be $46,691 to $58,364 annually. The entire salary range is up to $70,038 annually with a Doctorate and 10 years’ experience. A maximum of 10 years of experience will be considered for the initial salary placement purposes. *
