Summary

The Human Genome Sequencing Center at the Baylor College of Medicine is currently seeking a Senior Manager with 10 or more years of experience contributing and leading IT teams to oversee the execution and operations of its IT projects, associated infrastructure and to lead and manage an ambitious expansion of the cloud-based infrastructure used in pioneering genomic medicine studies. In this leadership position you will directly contribute to the pioneering clinical and research initiatives by aligning the HGSC roadmap to its software and systems. Although a research and biology background is not required for this position, familiarity with academic medical and research institutions and human genetics is important,

 

In direct response to this new era, the BCM-HGSC has launched the HGSC Clinical Lab (HGSC-CL), which has a complete infrastructure to support large-scale sequencing and genomics projects. With its sophisticated informatics core and pipeline and state-of-the-art technology development core, the CAP accredited/CLIA certified HGSC-CL can deliver clinical test grade data for returning results to diagnosing physicians. The environment is currently hybrid, with some components local while others are cloud-based. This position will spearhead efforts to continue our growth of cloud resources.

Job Duties

•    Manage a new initiative to design new infrastructure and migrate on-prem infrastructure and operations to the cloud.
•    Lead and manage software and system implementations and operations in both AWS cloud and on-prem environments.
•    Lead and manage a team of technical leads and engineers across on-prem and AWS cloud platforms and projects.
•    Develop and implement processes for managing projects and operations to ensure that they meet customer needs, legal requirements, and organizational goals.
•    Play a key role in validating QC plans, and information security requirements and ensuring compliance for all clinical and research initiatives.
•    Evaluate current infrastructure and operations to identify and resolve bottlenecks and streamline and improve IT policies and protocols.
•    Perform related project management, task organization, and management.
•    Work with cross-functional teams to facilitate project needs, set timelines, and identify and plan for resources.
•    Manage capacity planning, system installations, upgrades, and other maintenance activities.
•    Maintain IT policies and procedures for CAP compliance. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Five years of relevant experience. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or in a related field. 
  • Master's degree
  • 10 or more years of directly related work experience with five years of supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated experience with directing and managing software and system projects and operations, both cloud and on-prem
  • Demonstrated experience with AWS cloud and on-prem IT infrastructure, services, and software
  • Demonstrated experience with leading and managing multiple IT teams including cloud, system, and software engineers
  • Demonstrated experience with IT security and compliance in a clinical environment
  • Experience aligning IT roadmap to business and organizational goals 
  • Experience with establishing IT processes and protocols to increase efficiencies, reduce cost and to meet security and compliance requirements
  • Strong leadership and communication, with excellent problem-solving, critical-thinking, verbal and written communication skills
