Job Description

Summary

This is a full-time research position opening at the Children’s Nutrition Research Center.  Research focus concerns the role of nutrition in early life on the growth and function of skeletal muscle. The applicant will be involved in projects to evaluate the effect of diet on skeletal muscle growth and function in the newborn piglet. The job will require knowledge of histological techniques, microscopy, some biochemical and molecular techniques, and data analysis. Superior organization and record keeping skills are essential. Applicant must have excellent interpersonal skills, and be self-motivated, reliable, efficient, methodical, and show an attention to detail. Technician needs to be able to work independently and follow both oral and written instructions.

Job Duties

  • Conducts background literature to learn about and understand scientific principles on which methods are based.
  • Conducts analytical work using biochemical, and histological techniques and microscopy.
  • Maintains detailed documentation of experiments in lab notebooks.
  • Collects, compiles, and analyzes data.
  • Orders necessary laboratory supplies. 
  • Engages in good laboratory practices such as keeping the laboratory area clean and organized and following appropriate safety protocols.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with standard lab equipment and documentation of lab work performed.
  • Has excellent interpersonal skills, and be self-motivated, reliable, efficient, methodical, and show an attention to detail. 
  • Has excellent organization, communication, and record keeping skills.
