Position Summary
New Mexico State University invites candidates to join its Reference and Research Services Department, which contributes to the library’s outreach and instructional services. This is an exciting opportunity for a technology-oriented librarian interested in putting their technical skills to work towards supporting the educational and teaching mission of the library at an inclusive and community-centered university.

The Emerging Technologies Librarian is a tenure-track faculty position (12 months) that works directly with students to help them develop digital fluency skills. Faculty positions are supported by annual professional development funding.
This position supervises the library’s new Emerging Technologies Learning Lab, including directing student employees, and provides expertise in demonstrating how new hardware and software systems can be applied for use in academic research to augment subject matter inquiry. The Emerging Technologies Librarian will teach workshops and eventually credit courses in digital scholarship and contemporary research methods, such as digital exhibits, video production, data visualizations, text analysis, interactive maps, and born-digital books. This position will work as a team member and acts as a pathfinder for the library in understanding and developing innovative technologies to achieve the organization’s mission. The Emerging Technologies Librarian will partner with library faculty and academic programs across NMSU to develop new and innovative instruction and resources for students.

As a member of the library faculty, the Emerging Technologies Librarian’s role additionally includes building a record of scholarly and professional achievement to fulfill university requirements for promotion and tenure, and is responsible for achieving in the following areas:

Required Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Master of Library or Information Science Degree from an ALA-Accredited institution, or equivalent

1 year library or related experience, including para-professional roles
Preferred Qualifications (optional)

Preferred Qualifications:
Being open to active learning, with a strong sense of curiosity and enthusiasm for exploring emerging technologies as evidenced by coursework, hobbies, professional achievements, research and scholarship, instruction, or presentations.

Experience with 2D or 3D digitization technology
Experience using or teaching emerging technologies, for example, one or more of the following:
Geographic Information Systems
Electronics
Extended Reality technology (Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality)
Drone technology
3D modeling
3D printing
Digital Photography
Digital Video Production
Knowledge of research or media production applications, for example, one or more of the following:
