Description

The Academic Technology Spec III provides on-site supervision of AV activities to ensure classroom learning and events are successful in their use of AV technology on campus and online.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Leads strategic division and school-wide efforts to identify and deploy technologies that support the teaching and learning mission of the University.
Administers enterprise-wide systems and applications to ensure operability of services and provide a highly available, secure, and robust academic technology infrastructure.
Designs support models; deploys equipment and infrastructure into supported rooms and facilities and/or deploys enterprise-wide software applications for use by the Emory University and Emory Healthcare communities.
Monitors application activity, equipment security, and system functions to ensure required availability and integrity; works with OIT Enterprise Systems to ensure 7x24 end-to-end monitoring and event management systems and alerts are in place and properly supported.
Consults with OIT Infrastructure teams to identify new and evolving systems, servers, storage, and database resources.
Ensures systems and applications comply with required mandates and best practices.
Provides customer support to troubleshoot advanced-level technical problems, ensure productivity, and to maintain system operability.
Educates customers on available central services to promote technology usage at Emory and to create best practice standards.
Reviews departments' proposals for new technologies, and makes subsequent recommendations to management based on technology and financial support requirements.
Partners with vendors and other campus experts to evaluate customer technology requirements and offer effective, innovative and supported solutions.
Participates in projects to evaluate, test, implement, upgrade, and/or purchase new systems, applications, or services.
Serves on professional organizations' work groups and committees to promote industry standards and collaboration with peers to influence future technologies.
Performs related responsibilities as required.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
As the primary technical services contact, you will provide on-site supervision of A/V activities at the Emory Nursing Learning Center and School of Nursing, ensuring classes and/or events are successfully conducted on campus and online.
Consults directly with faculty and staff to plan for the technical implementation of classroom learning, events, and related support.
Makes recommendations on the best use of technology.
Provide consultative advice to faculty and other presenters on technical, multimedia and audio-visual presentation methods, techniques and equipment in order to enhance the quality of the presentation.
Manages complex network-based A/V systems and is responsible for troubleshooting complex systems in a high-availability environment.
Advise users on technical options. Interview and assess faculty requirements for instructional technology and advise on appropriate technology to meet specific instructional activities.
Work with a wide variety of instructional, multimedia and audio-visual technologies, networks and computer hardware and software, in support of classes and events at the Emory Nursing Learning Center.
Apply troubleshooting skills to assess in addressing equipment and process issues.
Plan and consult on the installation of new equipment and equipment upgrades including costing of solutions.
Coordinate and support on-line conferences.
Apply project management concepts in combination with AV-IT policies and procedures in determining technical support workflow.
Develop or escalate training as needed, based on consultation with users and understanding of technology, including FAQ's, knowledge-based entries, and job aids.
Develop user documentation, process improvements, or system design requirements, as needed
Provides technical leadership while working independently in a fast-paced, high-pressure, and high-profile educational environment.
Support users with educational software including as Echo360, Zoom, and Exam Soft.
Experience with programming Crestron systems.
Triage and coordinate the resolution of technical issues using a combination of ServiceNow and vendor support services.
Translates technical details to stakeholders of varying technical abilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A bachelor's degree and three years of experience in systems and/or application administration OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Experience in instructional technology support in higher education is preferred.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Audio Visual or Information Technology field or an A/V-related certification such as CTS.
Thorough understanding of video and audio production methods and equipment and ability to use this information to troubleshoot the most complex systems.
Thorough understanding of classroom-based instructional technologies
Ability to quickly learn new tools and technologies and adapt to an evolving field. Must be not only adept but enthusiastic about learning new technologies and new skills.
Ability to assess Campus needs for AV IT technology products and design services to meet those needs
Exceptional customer service skills and utilizes relationship-building techniques to create an immediate rapport with a wide variety of faculty and staff.
Demonstrated understanding of service related to classroom learning and events.
Proven ability to prioritize multiple high-impact services in a support role
May serve as the back-up for AV issues in the simulation learning center.
May be required to work some nights and weekends.
Contributes to the overall success of the Simulation Center – School of Nursing by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
