Summary

Information and Technology Services (ITS) is looking for a Windows Systems Administrator Associate to join the Infrastructure Systems group within ITS.


The role will have the opportunity to work closely with other members of your team to support the Windows Server infrastructure for ITS, including on-premise and cloud compute instances. This role will also contribute effort to the campus facing MiServer virtual machine hosting service, including Windows OS support tasks and service-wide request triage. The team utilizes a high degree of automation which requires a dedicated individual who is creative, flexible, and able to work on multiple tasks with challenging deadlines. The successful candidate will also be passionate about customer service. This position reports to the DISC Systems Support Windows Manager.

Responsibilities*

Provides daily support for both on-premise and cloud computing platforms

Develops and updates procedures and guidelines to install, patch, configure, customize, troubleshoot, upgrade, integrate, and maintain Windows Server operating systems

Researches, analyzes and resolves problems, providing root-cause analysis

Collaborates with project implementation teams to architect and build infrastructure that complies with vendor requirements while meeting project requirements

Proactively seeks information and utilizes analytical and creative problem solving skills along with standard processes and technologies resulting in secure use of systems, applications, and infrastructure

Demonstrates quality service and accountability in the process of resolving requests, supporting daily operations, and ensuring system stability that results in accurate, timely, and efficient solutions and data as evidenced by meeting customer needs and meeting or exceeding established performance metrics

You have experience writing and debugging PowerShell scripts for system administration and have a demonstrated ability to leverage appropriate technical tools to perform day-to-day administration tasks, root-cause analysis and service restoration (such as backup, restore, failover, log interpretation, and performance monitoring) for Windows Server operating systems.

Required Qualifications*

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business computing or a related field or equivalent combination of education, certification and experience

Minimum of one year experience in a related role requiring confidentiality, timeliness, customer service, organization, prioritization, troubleshooting, analysis, problem solving and working independently to successfully support Windows Server operating systems

Demonstrated ability to leverage appropriate technical tools to perform day-to-day administration tasks, root-cause analysis and service restoration (such as backup, restore, failover, log interpretation, and performance monitoring) for Windows Server operating systems

Experience writing and debugging PowerShell scripts for system administration

Demonstrated ability to work in a self-directed manner, manage projects and stay up-to-date with the latest industry developments and best practices and apply the knowledge in the workplace

Demonstrated analysis and technical problem solving skills

Ability to communicate technical concepts and information effectively both verbally and in writing

Familiarity with current computer technology and applications (e.g. word processing, spreadsheet and collaboration applications)

Demonstrated effective creative problem solving and flexibility when collaborating with customers, team members, support teams, external vendors, and technical organizations to understand, advocate for, evaluate, and support enhancements, resulting in plans and services that leverage the capabilities of existing technology and meet customer and organizational expectations

Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills including strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work effectively through all levels of management and matrix organizations

Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers in a manner that consistently meets the organization’s expectations for exemplary customer service

Excellent organizational, analytical and independent problem-solving skills

Ability to work with others in the building and maintaining consensual approaches with a wide array of diverse business interests

Desired Qualifications*

Experience with automation tools such as MECM (SCCM), Ansible, Puppet, Chef or Salt

Experience with Microsoft Active Directory

Familiarity with VMware virtualization environments

Automated operating system deployment experience

Experience with Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform

Experience with log analytic tools such as Splunk
