Job Profile Summary

Under the direction of the Associate Vice President of Institutional Accessibility, this position provides expertise, technical direction, assessment, and implementation support as it relates to attaining and maintaining EIT and AT compliance at Broward College, as required under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, utilizing technical standards as applied by Section 508 of The Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Coordinates and arranges for the adaptation of a wide variety of instructional and student/employee services-related materials for individuals with disabilities. Provides coordination and consultation to faculty members, staff and students regarding the availability of auxiliary aids, AT, and alternate media options. Ensures that reformatted materials are available in a timely manner in compliance with pertinent federal and state regulations.

  

Minimum Education:

  • Associate degree required.   
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered where applicable

Minimum Experience/Training:

  • Four years of relevant experience.
  • Requires operational knowledge and understanding of EIT and AT, ADA, Section 504 and 508 of The Rehabilitation Act of 1973, WCAG 2.0 and VPAT.
  • Requires operational knowledge of learning management systems, adobe, Microsoft office, assistive technology and auxiliary aids, and multipole operating systems.
  • Requires operational knowledge of multiple modalities of print and media conversion, including braille.

Essential Functions:

  • Daily - 50%: In collaboration with applicable college divisions and departments, develops and implements a prioritized list of EIT accessibility needs. Organizes audit and remediation projects, presents status reports, and develops strategies for continual improvements towards compliance with pertinent legislation and Broward College policy. Coordinates with Purchasing and IT to develop and implement a procurement tool and process for the college based on the most current version of VPAT, or an equally effective tool. Responsible for collaborating with purchasers to evaluate EIT compliance. Coordinate with Web Services and Marketing to work toward a goal of a fully accessible web/social media presence, ascribing to WCAG 2.0 AA guidelines. Coordinate with C-TEL, Instructional Designers, and end users to ensure that EIT guidelines are being followed in course development. Develops and implements best practice and user guides for EIT accessibility compliance for new and existing technologies. Direct assistance to students in need of alternative format creation and specific technical assistance with technology training.
  • Daily - 15%: Coordinates the AT program on each campus. Collaborates with Accessibility Resources and Human Resources to assess future needs, and to determine individualized AT needs. Develops online training modules for students and employees in the areas of auxiliary aids, AT, and adaptive accommodations for individuals with disabilities. Collaborates with divisions and departments on integrating AT into a business plan to promote and increased accessibility college-wide.
  • Daily - 20%: Develops, implements, and oversees a closed captioning program for the college; and, produce captioned or transcribed materials as outlined in Broward College policy and required by student/employee needs in accordance with applicable disability and copyright laws.
  • Daily - 5%: Coordinates and adapts a wide variety of instructional and related materials into a format that can be readily accessed by individuals with disabilities.
  • Daily - 5%: Provides train the trainer opportunities to Accessibility Resources and Human Resources staff on essential AT, and collaborate with staff members to develop intradepartmental trainings for individuals with disabilities who require AT.
  • Other - 5%: Performs related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Operational knowledge and understanding of EIT and AT, ADA, Section 504 and 508 of The Rehabilitation Act of 1973, WCAG 2.0 and VPAT.
  • Requires the application of specific IT concepts within area of technical expertise
  • In-depth functional knowledge and expertise in multiple technology environments, programs, languages, etc.
  • Ability to interact and effectively communicate with a diverse employee and student population
  • Ability to manage own work and work of others to unit performance standards for cost, quality, and output (e.g., demonstrated supervisory and organizational skills, ability to set priorities for self and others, schedule work activities, allocate resources and provide appropriate feedback.
