IT Product Owner

Job Description Summary:

Responsible for working with stakeholders to develop technology product visions and success metrics in alignment with the College’s strategic goals. The Product Owner builds and maintains product roadmaps for existing and potential products in alignment with the product vision. The Product Owner creates and refines the product backlog on a continual basis and is responsible for communicating with and managing the expectations of stakeholders. The Product Owner works on an agile team and is responsible for soliciting, documenting, and tracking the priority of product requirements to ensure delivery of the highest value items quickly.

Job Description:

Description of Duties and Tasks

1. Serve as primary business relationship manager for one or more products.
2.    Work with stakeholders to develop product vision and roadmap.
3.    Work with stakeholders to capture detailed requirements for desired new features and enhancements for future product releases.
4.    Create, refine, and maintain user stories and other requirements documents including business process documents and high-level solution designs.
5.    Facilitate interviews, workshops, focus groups, and other elicitation techniques.
6.    Create, maintain, refine, and publish product backlogs.
7.    Manage product communications and microsite.
8.    Provide work estimates and refine estimate process.
9.    Define and control scope of releases.
10.    Work with testing and QA teams to document and prioritize bug fixes.
11.    Facilitate product demos
12.    Coordinate the decommissioning of products as needed.
13.    Perform risk analysis and maintain requirements RAID logs as needed.
14.    Assist in strategic forums.
15.    Represent IT on various college-wide committees.
16.    Complete high-level solution designs as needed
17.    Participates in daily stand-ups when necessary.
18.    Participates in release planning efforts.

19.    May be required to serve as agile facilitator/scrum master on some products.

Knowledge

* Knowledge of key concepts of product ownership and product management.

* Must be very familiar with Agile software development.

* General Systems Development Lifecycle knowledge.

* Web-Application/Enterprise SaaS Product Management.

* Strong business acumen.

* Software tools for product backlog boards and Kanban boards.

Required Work Experience

* Three years related work experience.

Preferred Work Experience

* Three years of related work experience with at least two years experience as a product owner for internally developed software.

* One year of prior experience with outsourced software development in a similar capacity.

Required Education

* Bachelors degree.

Preferred Education

* Bachelor's degree computer science or related field, or equivalent related IT experience.

Special Requirements

* CSPO, CSM, or IIBA-CPOA preferred. 

* ITIL Certification Preferred.

* Valid Texas Driver's License and reliable transportation for local Austin area travel.

Physical Requirements

* Occasional lifting of objects up to 10 pounds.

* Work is performed in a standard office environment.

Salary Range

$82,756 - $103,445
