Position Overview
Under general supervision of the academic supervisor(s), the applicant is expected to assist in research support including the advanced biofuel laboratory, help write technical documents, and support graduate student training to meet research objectives of the department faculty. The responsibilities include operation and maintenance of lab equipment, fabrication and set-up of research and teaching apparatii, the operation and general maintenance of biofuels vehicles.

The associate engineer maintains student laboratory equipment, instructs students in safe operation of laboratory and analytical equipment, supervises students during experiments, instructs students in engineering and operational principals of experiments, and develops new instructional experiments in collaboration with department faculty. The applicant is responsible for lab-based course instruction in chemical engineering as primary instructor and/or in a supporting role, depending on course and department needs. To adequately perform this function the applicant should have an understanding of engineering principles, theory, and demonstrated practice. The applicant should also have general mechanical skills to maintain equipment, a basic understanding of electronics, and be able to write computer programs to interface and control lab equipment hardware.

Position Qualifications
Required Experience
Expertise: Have a sound knowledge of classroom instruction, lab instruments, engineering shop skills, compiling and analyzing data, writing reports and safety consciousness.


Required Education
Education/Experience: MS degree in Engineering. Or five or more years of experience in a research discipline.


Required Other
The person should have either certification or willingness to take necessary training in safe handling of chemicals.
Additional Preferred
Chemical Engineering B.S. degree

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
The person should be able to carry or lift heavy materials up to 50 lbs., climb a ladder, and retrieve heavy objects that are above the head.
