The Civil Engineering Department in the College of Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington invites applications for a Department Chair.

Department and College/School Information
The College of Engineering is home to seven departments: Bioengineering; Civil Engineering; Computer Science and Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Industrial, Manufacturing, and Systems Engineering; Materials Science and Engineering; and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. With more than 9,400 students, the College is among the largest in Texas and offers the most comprehensive engineering degree programs in the region. It offers 12 baccalaureate, 13 master’s, and 9 doctoral degree programs and has ties to numerous Fortune 500 companies in the region. The College is enjoying growth in student enrollment and student graduation, which has been concomitant with growth in research expenditures, collaboration, innovation and entrepreneurship by faculty and students.

The Civil Engineering Department (https://www.uta.edu/ce) has strong educational and research programs, with 27 tenured/tenure track faculty members, one member of the National Academy of Engineering, 2 members of the National Academy of Inventors and 4 ASCE Fellows. In fall 2022 enrollment included 1,118 undergraduate students and 779 graduate students. Annual research expenditures exceed $11.8 million, with world-class research in construction engineering and management, environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, solid waste management, infrastructure system engineering and management, structural engineering and mechanics, transportation engineering and water resource engineering.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Chair is expected to provide vision and leadership in building focused research programs, innovative new educational programs building the enrolled student base, enhancing collaborative research within and outside the University, and fostering relationships with industry, state and federal organizations. The Chair will also play an important role in ensuring that the Department is aligned with the five themes of UTA’s Strategic Plan: Student Success, Research and Innovation, Alumni and Community Engagement, Finance and Infrastructure, People and Culture and, by extension, the College’s Strategic Plan.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in civil engineering or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications
Applicants should possess excellent leadership and interpersonal skills and have a strong record of scholarship and research, teaching and service.
Special Conditions for Eligibility
Applicants should be full professors in the Department of Civil Engineering.
