Responsibilities
The Forsthoefel Lab utilizes the intestine of the planarian flatworm as a model to understand fundamental and medically relevant mechanisms of regeneration. Projects are oriented towards understanding how adult stem cells repair damaged digestive tissue, how the intestine signals damage, and how disease-linked genes function in a regeneration-competent animal. We seek an individual to join our team of intelligent, driven, fun, and curious scientists as a Research Technician.

Responsibilities will be balanced between research (~75%) and laboratory maintenance (~25%). Research responsibilities will include assessing gene expression and function during regeneration using in situ hybridization, RNA interference, and microscopy. These efforts will require documentation of experiments and analysis of results, generation of figures for publications and grants, and participation and presentation in lab/departmental meetings and planning sessions. Laboratory maintenance responsibilities will include caring for the lab's planarian colony (feeding, cleaning, and monitoring water quality), ordering supplies, preparing reagents, and general organization.

Initially, the Research Technician will work closely with senior lab members to support ongoing projects, but opportunities for independent projects may emerge, depending on the chosen candidate’s capabilities and career goals. This is an ideal position for an individual seeking to gain research experience prior to graduate school, or for someone interested in moving laterally into the regeneration field. Salary and responsibilities will be commensurate with experience.
