About This Role:

We are seeking qualified applicants for an IT Support Specialist II position. The ideal candidate will provide computing technical support, purchase new equipment, and provide user assistance and training to three departments (Agronomy, Horticulture, and Plant Pathology) in the Throckmorton Complex.

Specific job duties include

Providing computer hardware, software, operating system, and other technical support to department faculty, staff, and students. Includes setup, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting for computers, printers, tablets, cellphones and other related equipment for approximately 400 users in an Active Directory environment
Setting up new staff members with cellphone, computer, and email; and receive/document departing staff computer equipment
Purchasing tasks, including consulting with users to assess their computing needs and requirements and providing them with recommendations and pricing. Upon receipt, inventory, configure, deliver, and install equipment and software
Working with University IT support staff; submit tickets to the ‘Service Now’ IT support portal for software licenses, network cable drops, and other general IT requests
Routine maintenance and upgrades for two student computer labs
Supervising and training hourly student support technicians
Providing excellent customer service to a diverse clientele, including guidance, training, and resolution of support issues

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma and two years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications:

BS in Computer Science or related field or equivalency of 8 years of related experience.
Experience installing statistical and research related software such as SAS, MATLAB and SPSS
Experience with scripting languages such as Windows batch files, Bash, PowerShell, Python, and Perl.
Experience using and supporting: Microsoft Windows in an Active Directory environment; Microsoft Office; Mac OSX and Linux; mobile devices running iOS, Android and Windows
Previous supervision experience
Effective interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills.
Ability to communicate technical issues to a non-technical public.
