Position Purpose
The Database Technician I, under the general supervision of the Manager, Database Services, is responsible for installing, monitoring, maintaining, and administering the enterprise applications, including troubleshooting application problems and monitoring database performance to ensure the continuous operation of administrative software and hardware components. This responsibility covers both production and non-production databases, including the deployment of ERP release between environments, and is expected to work in close collaboration with other members of the Database, Applications, and Office of Technology team members. This position is expected to be a self-motivated individual combining technical skills with a proactive, can-do attitude, flexible approach, and strong focus on both quality and customer service.
Working with Database and Application team members, this position plans, organizes the maintenance of the ERP administrative software, performs necessary backups, and performs ERP software implementations and updates; maintains security of the database and applications; implements data access controls; assists users with questions; troubleshoots problems and clearly communicates and implements the resolution.
Monitors database backup procedures, including offsite storage; implements and maintains database support systems such as database scripting and monitoring; responsible for assisting in database and table recovery in the event of loss.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field. Education may be substituted for experience or experience may be substituted for education. Note that equivalencies are based on the following: AA = 2 years experience; BA/BS = 4 years experience; MA/MS = 6 years experience; PhD = 8 years experience.
Computer Skills Word-Processing, Spreadsheet, Presentation, Other - Working knowledge of system development and database management systems.
Experience
Required Skills and Experience:
Two years of software development and database experience
One year of experience working in a complex enterprise database/web environment
One year of experience working with multi-user versions of relational databases such as Oracle, MS/SQL or DB/2
One year of experience installing and maintaining multi-user relational databases
One year of experience navigating Linux and/or Windows server operating systems for installation and maintenance of database and application software

Preferred Skills and Experience:
Experience working with databases – Oracle RAC/RMAN/ASM/OEM, MS SQL 2008 R2, 2012
Experience with Oracle/MS SQL database management tools and query language
Experience with Linux, Windows job scripting
Experience working with Ellucian Banner Applications
