Job Description

Collaborates with the Director of Esports in all aspects of the Esports program: facilities, varsity team management, coaching, equipment maintenance, and recruiting.

Ball State University's College of Communication, Information and Media welcomes applications for an Assistant Director for Esports.

Reporting to the Director of Esports, this position oversees the day-to-day operation of Ball State's esports program, ensures student success and retention, contributes to student recruitment, and helps to manage Ball State esports facilities and equipment.

Job Function:

Collaborates with the Director of Esports in all aspects of the Esports program: facilities, varsity team management, coaching, equipment maintenance, and recruiting.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.

Minimum Experience:

At least one year of relevant professional, high-school, collegiate esports experience including: coaching esports teams in Overwatch, Rocket League, League of Legends, or Valorant, managing rosters, and recruitment of student-athletes.

Preferred Experience:

Two to three years in a leadership role within a collegiate esports program. Prior experience managing esports productions and broadcasting technology. Ability to manage technology and schedules for esports facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the varsity esports
    program. Assist coaches in scheduling and facilitating
    tryouts, scheduling practices, registering for competitions,
    and reserving space in the esports facility. Ensures varsity
    teams are in compliance with all league, conference, and
    institutional rules and regulations.
  • Identify and recruit high school, transfer, and international student-athletes that meet the University’s standards for academics and values. Work collaboratively with Admissions and College of Communication Information and Media teams on student recruitment efforts including traveling to high schools, meeting with students and parents at Ball State Universiy, responding to inquiries via the web and email.


  • Mentor students to achieve both academically and competitively while focusing on inclusion, leadership, and sportsmanship. Adjust student participation as needed to support academic success.
  • Help to plan, schedule, and execute esports broadcasts while working closely with the student production team and graduate assistants.
  • Collaborate with our youth organization and high school partners to coordinate on campus esports events including scheduling facilities, arranging student coaches, and ensuring compliance with university policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
