Job Profile Summary

Under limited supervision, the position provides direct support to the Seahawk NEST Academy daily operations. The specialist will aid the overall operation of the Seahawk NEST Academy, as well as provide direct support to Seahawk NEST students in all areas of student life, to promote student success at Broward College. Performs related duties as assigned.

This is a temporary position with a chance of renewal. The incumbent is subject to annual performance evaluations.

This position allows eligible veterans and their spouses to claim Veterans’ Preference pursuant to Florida Statute 295. Certain service members may be eligible to receive waivers for postsecondary educational requirements, in the employment by the state and its political subdivisions and are encouraged to apply for the positions being filled.

Minimum Education:

  • Associate’s degree required.
  • An equivalent combination of education or experience may be considered.

Minimum Experience/Training:

  • Three years of related experience.

Essential Functions:

  • Daily - 50%: Assists with all aspects of the recruitment, enrollment, and onboarding processes for the Seahawk NEST Academy. Serves as a liaison between Vocational Rehabilitation and NEST students. Assists students with adhering to their campus schedules. Provides ongoing academic and student support to all areas a student’s college experience. Assists students with their assistive technology plans. Regularly updates Seahawk NEST files and records
  • Daily - 25%: Assists with all areas of office management, including greeting visitors to the program, responding to internal and external correspondences, and assisting with business processes as assigned. Assists Seahawk NEST staff with creating and facilitating social media, website, and event programming for the Seahawk NEST Academy. Assists with collecting student data for ongoing reporting, as required and assigned.
  • Other - 20%: Builds and cultivates community partnerships to support all aspects of the NEST Academy.  Participates in monthly online informational and regular in-person meetings, state-wide, regional, and national professional organizations and consortia, and other professional development opportunities as assigned. Attends student recruitment events as required. Ensures compliance with college policies and procedures, applicable state and federal legislation pertaining to accessibility, and guidelines of Post-Secondary Comprehensive Transition programs.
  • Other - 10%: Performs related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge, understanding and skills in area of responsibility; including an understanding of concepts and principles of related areas and functions.
  • Ability to manage own work to job and performance standards. Ability to participate as an active team member
  • Requires intermediate to advanced knowledge of computer systems, i.e. Microsoft Office Products as well as specialized computer systems
  • Ability to interact and effectively communicate with a diverse employee and student population
