The Bursar Services department serves current and former students at the University of Oklahoma. We also serve our internal customers by providing operational support to academic departments and administrative offices. All services we provide will be in compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements and will be carried out in a manner that provides a positive work relationship and promotes the positive reputation of the University of Oklahoma. The position of Senior Student Program Specialist is vital to the success of the Bursar Services department and the University of Oklahoma. The ideal candidate for this position will have a focus on customer service and a high level of verbal and interpersonal skills. The Senior Student Program Specialist in the Bursar Services department will perform the following functions:

  • Monitor, review, audit, and reconcile internal collection accounts.
  • Counsel and assist students with their past due student account, to include counseling and advising on repayment options in person, via email, and over the phone.
  • Perform outreach and due-diligence collection efforts on internal collection accounts.
  • Perform research and provide recommendations and insight as part of the Bursar Promissory Note Committee. Counsel students approved by the committee and perform collection efforts as needed.
  • Provide backup to other areas of Bursar Services and the Student Financial Center.
  • Coordinate the printing of refund checks.
  • Process returned mail.
  • Perform other Bursar Services functions as assigned.
 

Job Requirements

Required Education:  High School diploma or GED, AND: 

  •  12 months of office & clerical experience.

Skills:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with interdepartmental teams and initiatives.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information.
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to accurately read and understand written materials and instructions. 
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude during stressful situations.
  • Sensitivity, knowledge and understanding to communicate and interact effectively with people of all ages and from diverse academic, socioeconomic, gender, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.

  • None.

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Sit for long periods of time, occasionally walk and stand.  Ability to bend, lift, stoop and carry. 
  • Ability to engage in repetitive motions. 
  • Standard office environment. 
  • Frequent exposure to pressure caused by deadlines and busy periods. 
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies. 

Departmental Preferences:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 12 months customer service experience
  • Prior OU or other university experience
  • Knowledge of OU policies and procedures and university financials systems - PeopleSoft or Banner
