Job Description

Summary

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences is seeking to hire a skilled individual with a
background and interest in data collection for clinical research projects, including the data that will populate a
large ophthalmology electronic health record repository our department is building. The employee will support
researchers performing health services, population health and outcomes research related to vision by
recruiting patients and obtaining data directly from them to integrate into the repository, as well as from
electronic health records, diagnostic equipment, and other sources. They will also perform data cleaning and
data analysis activities on the data collected. The successful candidate will work with a dynamic team of
researchers, statisticians, and IT professionals and coordinate activities related to the development of the
repository.

Responsibilities*

Perform data extraction activities at the Kellogg Eye Center and community offices
Assist with data management and database building
Regularly maintain dashboards to coordinate data intake and processing
Coordinate incoming data into the repository from different sources and staff members
Obtain data directly from patients to integrate into the repository
Prepare supporting materials for grant applications and clinical studies
Assist with regulatory, compliance, and IRB paperwork for the repository
Required Qualifications*

Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Bioinformatics, Data Science, or a related discipline
Intermediate level knowledge of Structured Query Language and SQL databases
Some knowledge of Python, Javascript, or other popular scripting languages.
Some familiarity and comfort with command-line environments (Linux terminal and/or Microsoft Powershell)
Excellent office computer skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to receive and convey information clearly and concisely
Ability to work successfully with a diverse team in a collaborative fashion
Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills
Demonstrated ability to work well under time constraints
Candidate must have a high degree of initiative and resourcefulness
Desired Qualifications*

A minimum of 2-4 year's work experience in a research or related technical field
Experience using SAS or R a plus
Familiarity with and interest in data visualization technologies a plus
Experience using D3.js a plus
Some knowledge of Structured Query Language and SQL databases
Familiarity with ophthalmology a plus
Familiarity with object oriented design principles a plus
Knowledge of modern HTML5 technologies and CSS a plus
