Precollegiate Programs is looking for summer camp counselors.

Dorm Counselors: will be responsible for living in the residence hall and providing overnight supervision of approximately
25-50 participants per camp with ages ranging from middle school to high school. Participants are on the OU Norman
campus to attend a variety of academic summer camps.

Day Counselors: will be responsible for the safety and well-being of all camp participants, leading participants from dorms
to meals in Couch Cafeteria, escorting participants from dorms to classroom buildings. Duties may include classroom
assistance.

Evening/Overnight Counselors: will be responsible for living in the residence hall and providing overnight supervision of participants.  Duties will include walking students to the cafeteria, facilitating evening activities, supervising students overnight in the dorms.

All Counselors are expected:

  • To take an active role in the participants' extra-curricular activities such as basketball, games, swimming, and social times in the evening, as well as during meal times.
  • Assist with supervision during recreation periods, program activities and trips, registration and move-out procedures.
  • Be knowledgeable of all policies and rules and assist in their enforcement.
  • Must be able to be on call during the summer camp's operating hours.
  • High level of maturity; ability to be self-disciplined and able to work on a team.
  • Must participate in paid training workshop prior to the start of camp.
 

Job Requirements

Required Education: High school diploma or GED

Skills:

  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work through the complete Summer camp session.
  • Experience with youth ages 6-18.  Per Minors on Campus Policies, counselors must be age 18 or older.

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to engage in recreational activities.  
  • Ability to grasp objects, and assist students in minor physical activity.

Department Preferences:

  • College coursework completed in Education, Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Architecture, Aviation, Chemistry, Geology, or Meteorology.
  • Familiarity with the University of Oklahoma's residence hall policy and procedures.
  • Have a valid driver's license
