Job Description


The Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy at Baylor College of Medicine is hiring a full-time Research Assistant I with interests in bioethics, social science, health policy, public health, epidemiology, or related field to work on an NIH-funded study examining the social, clinical, and ethical implications of using polygenic risk scores in child and adolescent psychiatry, as well as other studies exploring ethical, legal, and social implications (ELSI) of genomics. The research assistant will be part of an interdisciplinary team of researchers led by Stacey Pereira, PhD; Eric A. Storch, PhD; and Gabriel Lázaro-Muñoz, PhD, JD (Harvard). This is a non-laboratory research position.

Job Duties

  • Assist with project oversight
  • Assist with interview and survey materials development and data collection
  • Assist with quantitative data management
  • Conduct interviews and qualitative data analysis (training available)
  • Assist in the preparation of manuscripts for publication 
  • Assist in the preparation of presentations to share the project’s research in local, national, and international meetings

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in social sciences (e.g., anthropology, sociology, psychology, STS), health policy, public health, epidemiology, or related field
  • Experience with research project management 
  • Experience with qualitative data collection and analysis preferred, but training is available
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required; must be able to work independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines
  • Strong interest in health policy, genetics and genomics, bioethics, and/or related issues
