Student Affairs Communication Video Specialist (Hourly)

Job Description Summary:

Assists Video Producer to produce and filming videos for a variety of
communications including social media videos, internal news announcements, features, and program promotions. Working with colleagues across the college, the Video Specialist is responsible for assisting the SA Communication Video Producer in sourcing ideas and producing content that exemplifies the college's priorities and culture.

Job Description:

Description of Duties and Tasks

  • Assists Video Producer to help develop, produce, direct, perform interviews, and gather footage and b-roll for short and long form video productions

  • Serves as videographer and editor, performing post-production work including scene selection, music selection, using Frame.io for review processes and media exporting to final formats for web, broadcast and social media.

  • Archive, maintain and edit video footage and photos.

  • Gather b-roll footage independently and in coordination with senior staff.

Skills

  • Must be fluent in Adobe Premiere Pro and familiar with After Effects and Audition

  • Maintaining an established work schedule. 

  • Effectively using interpersonal and communications skills including tact and diplomacy.

  • Effectively using organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow-through.

  • Maintaining confidentiality of work-related information and materials.

  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships amongst other departments at the college.

  • Operating a variety of video studio equipment safely and competently.

  • Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands.

  • Responds quickly and proactively when addressed with complications during shoots or in post production.

Knowledge

  • Understanding of and technical ability with field/on location Audio recording and lighting.

  • General sense of narrative and documentary storytelling for various projects.

  • General sense of social media video trends and styles.

  • Knowledge of mirrorless/DSLR camera systems and filming with a mobile phone.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of narrative video production, video editing

  • Demonstrated knowledge of video and photography principles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Sony Alpha mirrorless series cameras

  • Bilingual, Spanish preferred

  • Experience producing story-driven short videos for social media and web distribution

  • Experience performing and filming interviews 

Required Work Experience

  • Six months of related work experience (internship or college related work experience is acceptable).

Preferred Work Experience

  • Experience working with a production team and staff.

Required Education

  • Associate degree.
    Four years of related work experience may substitute for this education requirement. Applicants who substitute work experience to meet the education requirement must use additional related work experience to meet the years of "Required Work Experience" for this position.  Please note that the college reserves the right to amend these terms of substitution at any time.

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Photojournalism, Film or a related discipline.

Special Requirements

  • Valid Texas Driver's license and reliable transportation for local Austin area travel.

Physical Requirements

  • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.

  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 20 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Work is performed in a variety of settings including in-studio, on-location, and standard office environment.

  • Must be able to deliver/pick up equipment on short notice.

Pay Rate

$23.00/hour
