The Director of Health Promotion and Advocacy is responsible for the effective operation and administration of health education and advocacy programming and services relating to general health education and wellness and specific university student health including sexual health, alcohol and other drugs, sexual violence prevention, and mental wellness. The Director is also responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating education programming in support of the stated mission of the University and of the Division of Student Affairs. The Director monitors national trends and helps to ensure that relevant outreach, educational programming and resources are provided to meet the needs of the campus community. Additionally, the Director of Health Promotion and Advocacy provides strategic leadership and guidance in the development of a healthy environment for students at Ball State University.

Job Function:
The Director of Health Promotion and Advocacy is responsible for the effective operation and administration of health education and advocacy programming and services relating to general health education and wellness and specific university student health including sexual health, alcohol and other drugs, sexual violence prevention, and mental wellness. The Director is also responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating education programming in support of the stated mission of the University and of the Division of Student Affairs. The Director monitors national trends and helps to ensure that relevant outreach, educational programming and resources are provided to meet the needs of the campus community. Additionally, the Director of Health Promotion and Advocacy provides strategic leadership and guidance in the development of a healthy environment for students at Ball State University.
Minimum Education:
Master's degree in public health, nursing, wellness, health, student development, higher education administration, counseling, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Preferred Education:
Earned Doctorate in Health Promotion or a related discipline from an accredited university.
Minimum Experience:
Background and professional work experience in the administration of health education/promotion/prevention programs.
Preferred Experience:
Supervisory experience; delivery of health education/promotion services or programming experience on a college campus; public speaking experience and skills; evidence of research and scholarly activity and ability.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the development and implementation of a strategic, multi-level, evidence-based and planned approach to health promotion, prevention, and advocacy at Ball State University.
- Identify, develop and facilitate programs to increase awareness and knowledge, and reduce risks on a variety of health-related topics such as sexual health, power-based personal violence risk reduction, mental wellness, stress management, alcohol and other drugs, etc.
- Provide administrative supervision for staff responsible for providing educational programs, support, training, and resources to students at Ball State University which includes a Health Educator, Victim Advocate, Administrative Coordinator, and graduate/student staff as applicable.
- Demonstrate leadership, influence, communication, partnership and collaborating skills with university partners.
- Participate in the development and implementation of a comprehensive AOD education and prevention program; utilize peer health educators as appropriate; enlist the support and involvement of various elements of the university campus community and the community-at-large.
- Collaborate with other departments in the division and university, including but not limited to, Counseling and Health Services, Housing and Residence Life, Student Conduct, Student Life, University Police, International Student Services, Working Well and Academic Affairs.
- Utilize findings from the American College Health Assessment or other bench-marked surveys to inform health education programming and design and implement assessment methods to evaluate the effectiveness of programs, gauge student impact and increase the reach of the health promotion strategy at Ball State.
- Serve as a content expert for the university community about high impact practices related to public health initiatives, trends, data, theory and research.
- Partner with community agencies to enhance health promotion programming and services available to students.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
