Job Profile Summary

Under limited supervision the purpose of the job is to perform major mechanical work in the diagnosis, maintenance and repair of automotive and associated college-owned equipment. Employees in this job classification are responsible for diagnosing, repair and maintaining a variety of college-owned vehicles, equipment and function in a lead worker capacity for other automotive repair as required. Performs related work as directed.

  

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Minimum Experience/Training:

  • Five or more years as an Automotive Technician.

Minimum Certification/Licenses:

  • Valid Florida Driver’s License required or, as a condition of continued employment, a Valid Florida Driver’s License within 30 days after beginning employed by the College.

Essential Functions:

  • Utilizes equipment in a safe and productive manner to perform grounds maintenance and associated repair work.
  • Interprets job assignments and completes work with minimal supervision.
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet schedules.
  • Requisitions materials and supplies through Supervisor for projects and coordinates the efficient use of student workers, resources and equipment.
  • Coordinates ground maintenance equipment repair and maintenance projects at multiple sites; analyzes and resolves work problems, and assists workers in solving problems.
  • Maintains current knowledge of industry standard and keeps up to date with required certifications.
  • Makes recommendations to Landscape Supervisors, Direct Supervisor on equipment needs and safety concerns.
  • Trains and directs subordinates in the use, care and maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • Oversight of vehicle cleaning schedule.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to recognize needs of unit and own responsibility.
  • Knowledge of ASE engine repair, ASE engine performance, and CDL w/air brake.
  • Knowledge of the standard servicing characteristics of automotive and related equipment.
  • Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward College Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to manage projects.
